Ruger Mini-14 Ranch - The 50th Anniversary Limited Edition

I’d like to keep at least one “back to basics” rifle in my collection. You know, something that has some wood on it, takes some skill to shoot and hit with, and that doesn’t run a red dot or a scope. In case you don’t have one yet, or need another one, the Ruger Mini-14 Ranch in its new 50th Anniversary edition might be up for consideration. Chambered in 5.56x45, this Limited Edition model comes with a laser-engraved anniversary logo on the bolt, polished stainless steel accents, wood handguard, bayonet lug, and a flash suppressor reminiscent of the original Mini-14.

Most of the rifle is covered by a full-sized walnut stock with a wood top cover, cut for a M1 carbine sling/oiler, and a gas block with a left-side sling swivel.

Fans will be pleased to find the rugged Garand-style action with the traditional breech bolt locking system, fixed-piston gas system, and self-cleaning moving gas cylinder for reliability. I recently sold my old Mini-14 (I hate selling guns), and I can’t remember having any issues with the action.

There’s a cold hammer-forged threaded barrel (18"), with an ultra-precise 1:9" RH rifling said to offer exceptional accuracy and longevity. It goes against what I described above and my “back to basics” rifle philosophy, but there are integral scope mounts machined on the solid steel receiver, just in case you should feel the urge to mount a rifle scope. Scope rings come included, but the press release doesn’t mention for which diameter.

I suggest you use the included sighting system, with a ghost ring rear aperture sight and a non-glare, protected blade front sight. The receiver is drilled and tapped for the included Picatinny rail.

The suggested retail is $1399, which also includes a hard case, two magazines, and the scope rings.

If this turns you on, Ruger’s Eighth Edition of Collector’s Series with Three Firearms will surely attract your attention as well.

Why design it with a shorter sight radius ?

So you can mount your favorite bayonet and stab the targets you missed. 😉

Another Ruger design mistake. Besides being aesthetically unattractive, the world has not requested another 5.56NATO long gun. Ruger also attempted to give us just another 9mm pistol, which one would not chose for self-protection. Sadly, Ruger is no longer a leader in firearms creativity or acceptance by the buying public. 😞
