Palmetto State Armory's new Sabre IC receiver sets are here! These ambidextrous setups are built around the Magpul ICAR magazine for cartridges like the 6mm ARC and 338 ARC. Keep reading for all the details.

PSA @ TFB:

The Magpul ICAR architecture will be familiar to some AR15 users. It is an update on the older LWRC Six Eight platform, which was optimized for the 6.8 SPC caliber. Though that round fell out of favor, the magazine and receiver sets it spawned are a perfect fit for newer calibers like the 6mm ARC. This setup offers a great starting point for a build in one of the compatible calibers.

PSA showed off complete rifles using these receivers at SHOT 2026, but the parts are beating the full guns to market. The Sabre IC receivers retail for $329 in black, or $349 in an assortment of Cerakote colors. For $499 you can get a receiver set and five ICAR magazines. All models are in stock at PSA as of writing. Individual 25-round windowed ICAR mags are available in black or FDE for $37.99 each.

From the manufacturer:

"Based on our Sabre-15 Enhanced receiver sets, the Sabre-IC receiver set is purpose-built for Magpul ICAR magazine compatibility, making it the right foundation for a 6mm ARC or similar caliber build.
The upper receiver features engraved T-marks and provides a thermal fit for your barrel. The lower receiver includes an ambidextrous bolt catch/release and features an integral trigger guard and flared magwell. Both the upper and lower receivers are compatible with AR-15 pattern parts."

With a strengthened bolt and proper magazine in 6.5 Grendel, this will be the perfect back country and self defense rifle I have been dreaming about since the 6.5 Grendel's inception.

It’s odd to me that we have arrived at building a dedicated receiver set for cartridges which were designed completely around fitting in legacy receivers.

A similar thing happened with 9x19 and 40 S&W. .40 S&W was intended to fit in 9x19 sized frames, but it turned out that it worked better and you could get higher capacity in a pistol designed with .40 S&W in mind. That's why the P226 and the P229 had the same original capacity in 40 S&W. The P226 was designed around 9mm, the P229 was designed around .40 S&W.

Now that .40 S&W has declined in popularity, we're seeing slimmer pistols designed with only 9x19 in mind. A P365 magazine body isn't any narrower at it's thickest point than a CZ-75 magazine.
