POTD: Tikka T3x UPR in MDT LSS-XL Chassis - 6.5 Creedmoor Excellence

There are a lot of different Tikka models, but there are a lot of reasons to choose the Tikka T3x UPR model from the start. But what if that’s not “good enough”? Then you start modifying. This owner went for an MDT LSS-XL chassis, MDT bipod, barrel tuner, and optics from Schmidt & Bender. In fact, the riflescope is a surplus from the Canadian C20 tender, so painted in a special C17 Tan color. Drone view, and this Photo Of The Day has officially started.

The caliber is 6.5 Creedmoor. Sorry, I can't remember the brand or type of ammunition, but it was factory ammo that performed exceptionally well in this rifle. You can see the 5 rounds at 100 meters, and add for shooter error, heartbeats and so forth.

The cantilever mount is from Spuhr. If the grass looks a bit strange, it’s because of the frost. C17 Tan blends in rather well, even when things are frosty on the grassy fields.

The Tikka feels as hand-made as the Schmidt & Bender 3-20x PM II Ultra Short. I think the “A1” indicates it’s some kind of surplus from the Canadian C20 tender, but this riflescope works just as well on a bolt-action.

Highly effective compensator, with a barrel tuner.

I’ve shot this Tikka a few times at 300 meters, and it’s very accurate. The first 5 shots were 10-1s, so I laughed and thought I didn’t need much more evaluation, but “for science,” I did fire a few more rounds through it.

It appears there is a substantial weight factor with that set-up. I would personally recommend a mountain rifle, not to exceed 6 lbs. in 6.5 Creedmoor, for big game. But for targeters and competition I can see the benefits.
