POTD: Tikka T3x TAC A1 in a Spuhr SICS Chassis

Today’s Photo of the Day takes a closer look at a precision rifle build that blends supreme factory performance with carefully selected upgrades. The foundation is a Tikka T3x TAC A1 chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor, a cartridge widely used for its consistent ballistics and manageable recoil. Apart from ordering and paying for the parts, all it takes is like two screws and some bedding if you really care about precision (who doesn’t at this level?)

This rifle has been reconfigured into a Spuhr SICS chassis, a system known for its rigid construction and modularity. The custom Cerakote finish adds a distinct visual profile, and the idea was to mimic the HIR-601 (Swedish Flat Dark Earth), which wasn’t released at the time. The result seems to have come pretty close to the real thing.

On top sits a Schmidt & Bender 3-27x PM II, a scope often selected for long-range competition and field use due to its wide magnification range and tracking reputation. It is mounted in a Spuhr mount, maintaining alignment and providing options for accessories. For close-range or transitional targets, the rifle is also equipped with an Aimpoint Acro as a secondary sight.

Overall, it is a setup that offers a combination of precision, ruggedness and user-tailored configuration. It’s an example of how a proven factory rifle can be developed into a specialized long-range tool, for those who don’t want to order a custom build or have gotten bored with their factory rifle.
