POTD: The Canadian Military Police

Photo Of The Day and a closer look at the Military Police who are sworn to uphold Canadian law and the Code of Service Discipline. With over 1,250 full-time members, they represent one of the largest police forces in Canada. From investigating cybercrimes and theft on military bases to protecting VIPs, conducting undercover operations, and providing aircraft security, the Canadian MPs deliver 24/7 policing, security, and detention services. They serve the Canadian Armed Forces both at home and on deployments around the world—including in conflict zones and disaster-stricken regions. The rifle above seems to be the C7A2 automatic rifle.
As a shooting instructor, I always advise against having anything touch the barrel - it can drastically change the point of impact even at short distances.
If you’re interested in a “dynamic and rewarding career” you can check out the Canadian MP’s homepage here: forces.ca/en/career/military-police
You can also check out the salary and benefits, which were quite a lot better than I expected.

That's a C8 model. The short handguard and 14.5" barrelled guns in Canadian service are all C8?? something. That is likely a C8A3 with mods from the original Colt Model 725 to include a flat top upper conversion, OD furniture, possibly a Tirad and ambi cocking handle. Hard to tell everything in that photo. The upper photo shows what is likely a C79A1 optic from Hughes Leitz Optical Technologies in Midland, Ontario, A quirky bit of kit. Fantastic optics, horrible fragile original mount/base that has had a few upgrades. The OD cover is also an upgrade from original. The lower photo looks to be the same type of C8A2 or A3 rifle with an EOTech red dot optic fitted. The CF uses a bunch of other optics than the 3.5X C79 series for specific missions. The EOTech would be much better up close than the C79, Agree on the barrel touch discussion, having been an engineer at Diemaco (now Colt Canada) I can confirm that POI shift is real. The MPs however, like most line cops are not shooting further that "the whites of their eyes" most times in their work. They are primarily police not line infantry. Fun story to read, thanks guys. While Canadian Military Police do a large number of things outside basic base policing, it is a bit absurd that there is 1 MP for every 54.4 members in the entire CAF. This is even more ridiculous when one considers that the regular Canadian Army has 9 understrength infantry battalions that at best can muster 800 members each. It goes to show the Government of Canada has zero to know interest in maintaining a military focused on combat capability.
