Mossberg’s New Suppressor-Ready Bolt-Action Rifles
Mossberg has released two new bolt action, suppressor-ready rifle lines today. The Mossberg MVP Patrol Professional Series and the Patriot Carbine line. Let's take a look.
MVP Patrol Professional
In a significant expansion of their Professional Series, Mossberg has unveiled the MVP Patrol Professional Series rifles. With chamberings in 5.56mm NATO/.223 Rem, 300 AAC Blackout, and 7.62mm NATO/.308 Win, the MVP Patrol Professional Series offers an attractive option for those who value suppressor compatibility and magazine versatility.
Similar in concept to Ruger’s popular American bolt-action series, Mossberg’s MVP Patrol rifles take things a step further with enhanced quality and performance. Ruger’s series is known for providing reliable suppressor-ready firearms with AR-15 magazine compatibility at an affordable price point. Mossberg aims to deliver a similar experience but with upgraded features. While the Ruger American is an excellent rifle in its own right, the MVP Patrol Professional Series brings a more refined touch to the suppressor-ready bolt-action rifle market.
One standout feature of the MVP Patrol Professional Series is its patented magazine compatibility. The 5.56mm NATO and 300 AAC Blackout models use the Drop Push™ bolt design, allowing seamless feeding from AR-15-style magazines, while the 7.62mm NATO model employs the Dual Push™ bolt design and Dual Latch™ system for compatibility with both M1A/M14 and AR-10 magazines. This versatility offers shooters greater flexibility, whether they’re reloading quickly, adjusting for capacity, or switching to specific loads.
The rifles also feature 16.25-inch medium bull barrels, threaded and ready for suppressor use, with a thread cap and A2-style muzzle brake included. Their suppressor-friendly design, coupled with the inherent silence of a bolt-action mechanism, should make these rifles exceptionally quiet, especially in 300 Blackout. This caliber would be my pick because of how amazingly quiet it is in a suppressed bolt gun.
These will also include the user-adjustable LBA Trigger System, oversized bolt handle for ease of use, and pillar-bedded synthetic stocks. The Professional Series’ Cerakote Tungsten metal finish enhances durability while looking sharp.
Patriot Carbines
Adding to the excitement, Mossberg has also introduced the Patriot Carbine series of bolt-action rifles. These models, derived from the proven Patriot platform, feature shorter barrel lengths optimized for suppressor use and are available in a wide range of calibers, from .22-250 Rem to 7mm PRC. The Patriot Carbine rifles come equipped with threaded barrels, Picatinny rails for optics, and Mossberg’s LBA™ user-adjustable trigger. With an MSRP starting at $500, these rifles cater to hunters and shooters looking for a cost-effective, suppressor-ready option.
Patriot Carbine available calibers/Threading:
22-250 Rem (1/2”-28 TPI); 308 Win and 6.5mm Creedmoor (5/8”-24 TPI); 450 Bushmaster and 350 Legend (11/16”-24 TPI); 6.5mm PRC, 300 Win Mag, and 7mm PRC (5/8”-24 TPI).
As highlighted in my popular video discussing budget suppressor hosts, bolt-action rifles excel as low-cost suppressor platforms because they eliminate action noise and direct all gasses down the bore. The MVP Patrol Professional Series rifles should perform similarly to the Ruger from this video:
Priced at $829, the MVP Patrol Professional Series will cost a few hundred dollars more than the rougher-around-the-edges Ruger, but it should be a contender at a street price that’ll start with a 6 or a 7. On the other hand, the $500 MSRP on the Patriot Carbines is right in line with the Ruger American, with a similar MSRP for a similar feature set, however, the Mossberg Patriot Carbines lack AR-15 magazine compatibility.
