Magpul Adds a Hood and a Few Tricks to the MBUS Pro Front Sight

Magpul showed off several new products at the NRA Annual Meetings last weekend in Atlanta, including a hooded front sight version of the MBUS Pro. Instead of the familiar winged design, this variant adds a protective cover around the front sight post.

New Magpul Stuff @ TFB:

When used with the MBUS Pro rear sight, the setup can create a diopter-like sight picture, which helps tighten up alignment and improve precision. The post itself is rotatable, allowing shooters to switch between narrow (.040") and standard (.060") widths based on preference or use case. Elevation is adjusted without tools, and the steel construction with a QPQ finish matches the rest of the MBUS Pro line. It mounts at standard height and locks in place when stowed or deployed.

Some shooters want a clean front sight, others prefer a bit more structure around the post, and this version gives shooters a different visual reference. I don’t shoot with iron sights that much any longer, but it’s how I was raised and trained (before the red dot era), and I have been surprised how accurate you can be, even at longer distances. It should come as no surprise, really, it’s the basics of rifle shooting.

The elevation adjustment is toolless, and the profile works with any standard-height rear. According to Magpul, it locks solid in both stowed and deployed positions, keeping it simple and reliable.

The MSRP is $94.95. You can have any color as long as it’s black.

Which kind of back-up sight do you prefer? Or is the back-up sight your primary, like old style?
