Beretta USA has released the 92X Performance Defensive Classic pistol, a variant of the 92X Performance platform designed specifically for International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) competitions. This 9mm model incorporates modifications for compliance with the SSP (Stock Service Pistol), ESP (Enhanced Service Pistol), and CO (Carry Optics) divisions, focusing on accuracy, ergonomics, and optic compatibility while maintaining the core design of the 92X series.

The pistol includes a combat crown stainless steel barrel, which protects the rifling at the muzzle to maintain consistent accuracy over time. Its stainless steel construction provides resistance to wear and corrosion. It is equipped with thin Hogue walnut grips, offering an ergonomic hold for improved control and recoil management while contributing to a classic appearance.

The Xtreme-S trigger, retained from the 92X Performance series, is fully adjustable for take-up, break, and overtravel, allowing customization to individual preferences and reducing reset travel by up to 40% compared to standard 90-series triggers. The model features a fiber optic front sight paired with an adjustable rear sight, and the slide is optic-ready with included mounting plates compatible with common red-dot optics, enabling direct attachment without additional modifications.

The pistol combines nickel and stainless steel elements for a durable finish and traditional aesthetic. This configuration builds on the 92X Performance's ergonomic controls and overall platform, adapting it for IDPA rules without introducing entirely new mechanics. Shooters should verify compliance with current IDPA regulations, as equipment standards can evolve.

Each pistol ships with two magazines, optic mounting plates and a hard case.

“The 92X Performance Defensive Classic merges classic Beretta aesthetics with high-performance enhancements, allowing shooters to maintain a sharp edge in competition,” said Logan Killam, Beretta USA Head of Tactical. “From fiber-optic sights to a finely tuned trigger system and optical readiness, this pistol is crafted for speed, precision, and reliability under pressure.”

Beretta putting the safety where it always should've been...better late than never.

It WAS frame mounted the first two years of production. The Taurus 92, still with a frame mounted safety, was a licensed copy of the original design!

Beretta's extractor location hasn't change. To clean it have to punch out pin. Had a centurion 96 in 40. caliber. Love it, but getting inside the internals for deep cleaning was tricky, even with later YouTube help.
