AX800 Suprema: Beretta’s New Flagship Shotgun for Waterfowl Hunters
Birds beware! Beretta has announced the launch of the AX800 Suprema, a new semi-automatic shotgun developed specifically for waterfowl hunters. The model represents a ground-up engineering effort aimed at improving reliability, handling, and performance in the type of harsh, wet conditions typical of duck and goose seasons.
The AX800 Suprema is built around the company’s new B-LINK Pro gas-operating system, which is said to offer rapid cycling, reduced fouling, and lower maintenance requirements compared to previous designs. Beretta notes that the system was developed to maintain consistent performance in cold temperatures and heavy weather, where moisture and debris often affect reliability.
A Steelium Pro barrel is standard on the AX800 Suprema. The barrel design is intended to improve pattern consistency while contributing to recoil mitigation, helping shooters maintain control through extended hunting sessions. According to Beretta, the combination of the gas system and barrel profile is engineered to provide faster follow-up shots and more stable gun handling.
Ergonomics and durability were also key design considerations. The AX800 Suprema features a stock and forend shaped for use with gloves and wet hands, along with exterior finishes selected to withstand abrasion, salt spray, and repeated exposure to water. The shotgun will be offered in multiple finishes to suit a range of hunting environments.
The AX800 Suprema is positioned as part of a broader expansion of Beretta’s waterfowl-specific offerings. Its release coincides with the company’s new Suprema Waterfowl Collection, a line of apparel intended for use in cold and wet environments, with an emphasis on concealment, insulation, and mobility.
Key innovations & features:
- B-LINK® Pro Gas System - Our fastest, cleanest, most reliable gas system to date. B-LINK Pro cycles everything from light target loads to heavy magnums with ease, running 36% faster and 46% cleaner than prior Beretta gas systems (including the A400 Xtreme Plus). The result: softer felt recoil, more consistent cycling, and less time cleaning between hunts.
- Steelium® Pro Barrels - Barrel technology trusted by the world’s best clay shooters is now built for the blind. Proven in our world-champion DT11, the shotgun behind 14 out of 15 podium finishes at the 2024 Olympics, Steelium® Pro features an extended 17.7" (450mm) forcing cone to deliver tighter, more consistent patterns, greater down range energy, and reliable performance, shot after shot.
- Kick-Off® Pro Recoil Reduction - Built to handle the heaviest waterfowl loads, the Kick-Off® Pro stock system cuts felt recoil by up to 70%.
- High-Tech Polymer Receiver - Rugged, weatherproof, and easy to clean. The sleek high-tech polymer receiver features a modular design and an integrated optic mount to keep you ready for any setup.
- Adjustable Fit System - Fully configurable to fit each shooter out of the box. Interchangeable pistol grip, adjustable comb, adjustable length of pull, cast/drop adjustments, and a weather-resistant recoil pad. Designed for intuitive handling in tight blind and boat environments; features a flat trigger with a crisp break and fast reset.
- User-First Ergonomics - Oversized loading port with pro-lifter, bolt handle, bolt release, and enlarged trigger guard for reliable operation in wet, cold, or gloved conditions.
“The AX800 Suprema is the most advanced waterfowl shotgun we’ve ever built,” said Caleb McMillen, Beretta USA Sr. Product Manager for Long Guns. “Every part of this platform was designed and engineered to give waterfowl hunters an advantage: harder hitting and more consistent patterns, faster cycling, dramatically reduced felt recoil, cleaner operation, and a fit system that lets shooters fine-tune the gun to their body.”
Beretta states that the new shotgun will begin shipping to authorized dealers in December. The AX800 Suprema is aimed at hunters seeking a semi-automatic platform designed to handle both high-volume shooting and challenging weather without frequent cleaning or adjustment.

I love Beretta but I just don’t know about this shotgun. I get that the gas cylinder system can go 10,000 rounds between cleaning but to make it only serviceable by sending it in? Cmon! And I guess we’ll see about the polymer receiver. The Steelium Pro barrel is the upside. However I will stick with my A400 for now.
What we really need is Cole’s to make a clutch type socket to take off the gas valve nut on the Xtreme like their current system can do for the non Xtreme guns. It’s easy enough to rout out the gas valve holes if you can get the spring loaded plate off of the back of the valve. Supposedly the 800 has DSP on the gas valve parts, easier to wipe them down, FABARM already uses DSP on their valves.
