VKTR Industries Opens VK1 Ambi Lower to Stand-Alone Sales

VKTR Industries is making its patented ambidextrous lower receivers available as stand-alone products for the first time, opening them up to shooters who previously could only get one by purchasing a complete VKTR rifle. The VK1 Complete Lower is now available to dealers, distributors, and the law enforcement market.

The lower is built around VKTR's patented ambi control suite, which includes a billet-machined magazine release, a dual-use bolt catch-and-release paddle, and a proprietary VKTR Tactical Selector Lever. All billet controls are heat-treated stainless steel, which VKTR says is built to handle sustained use in demanding conditions. A patented heavy-duty buffer retainer with a precisely angled strike face provides greater surface contact with the buffer assembly, a design VKTR positions as particularly well-suited for suppressed use.

The fire control group is a 4.5 lb. single-stage Hiperfire unit. The lower ships with a Magpul K2 grip, a carbine buffer and spring, and a mil-spec buffer tube, and buyers can configure it with the tube only, a Magpul SL-M stock, or an SB Tactical SBA3 brace. The receiver is compatible with all small-frame AR calibers, weighs 2.06 lbs., and is available in Armor Black. As a serialized component, it must transfer through an FFL. There’s an 8-10 week lead time for direct orders, though VKTR notes the lower may be available sooner through authorized dealers.

At $599.99, does the Hiperfire trigger and full ambi billet control set justify the price over a standard mil-spec lower build?

Most, if not all, details are included in this article, but here’s a direct link: https://www.vktrind.com/product/vk1-complete-lower-ambidextrous/

If you were building a piston-driven AR from scratch, would a complete ambi lower like this be your starting point, or do you prefer to spec your own FCG and controls?

The features look great. I'm hoping they'll sell one sans pistol grip and trigger.

Being able to pick and choose parts for one's lower will appeal to more buyers than not. I use the grip, but I don't like the trigger. Letting the buyer be in control sounds smart, but it wouldn't take long to see if I'm right or not.
