POTD: Das Maschinengewehr MG3
A classic like the MG3 machine gun should be pronounced in its original language, don’t you think? Just listen to the words: Das Maschinengewehr: “The machine rifle”.
This is the topic for Today’s Photo here at TFB, and since its introduction in the German Bundeswehr in 1969, it has proven itself over a decade after decade.
The MG3 machine gun can fire up to 1,200 rounds of 7.62 mm NATO per minute, with an effective range of up to 600 meters on a bipod as pictured above.
As we mentioned it previously, you already know that t he MG3 is currently being replaced by a new development: the modern MG5 machine gun (or HK121).
There is a 60-second video with the MG3 in this link (German)

I'm a little surprised that their animated drawing is inaccurate; it shows empty cases being ejected out the side.
Heinrich Severloh could show'em how to use it.
