Looking for a new, budget-friendly single-shot rifle or shotgun? CVA has updated the Scout lineup for 2025, with two new rifles and a shotgun with useful features for practical hunters.

CVA Centerfires @ TFB:

Ready for the woods

First off, note that neither the updated Scout model or the new Scout Takedown are reinvented; these use the same basic action as before, but with new features.

The Scout lineup uses a break-action design with a manually-cocked hammer, similar to the CVA Wolf Muzzleloader. The base model has an updated Picatinny rail for mounting optics, and a stock redesigned to more easily fit individual shooters, including adjustable length-of-pull and comb height with removable spacers. CVA also added steel sling swivel studs, instead of the old molded-in plastic studs.

For 2025, the standard Scout is available in a wide range of calibers including low-recoil options like .223 or .243, always a good choice in a light single-shot. Harder-hitting options like .308 and .45-70 are also available, and for 2025, 360 Buckhammer and 400 Legend for hunters in states requiring straight-wall cartridges. Depending on which caliber you buy, barrel length ranges from 16.25 inches to 22 inches, with weights from 6.4 pounds to 7.8 pounds. A threaded muzzle is standard on all these options. MSRP is $425; see more details here.

Then there’s the new Scout Takedown. This is the same basic idea, but with a quick-detach setup on the forearm and barrel so the whole gun comes apart for easy transportation. The muzzle is ported, and barrel length ranges from 20 to 22 inches, with weight from 6.5 pounds to 7.8 pounds. MSRP is $495; see more details here.

See CVA explain the new rifles below:

Finally, there’s the CVA Scout Spur—basically the same thing, but not a rifle. It’s a shotgun chambered in .410. These will come with a Picatinny rail as standard, and a 20-inch barrel threaded for Browning Invector chokes.

With tungsten loads, this would be a handy turkey-taker. [BPI Outdoors]

The shotgun weighs 6.7 pounds without an optic, but it does seem intended for use with optics, as is increasingly the case these days. The asking price is $465, but if you’re looking to pick one up before turkey season, the CVA website has none in stock at the time of writing.
