TFB Review: Meprolight MEPRO FT Bullseye Front & Rear Sights

While scrolling through YouTube Shorts, I saw a sight that claimed to be the red dot killer. These sights are more compact, don’t need batteries, and work day or night.

The MEPRO FT Bullseye front and rear sights are unlike anything I’ve ever encountered (like you only need the front or rear sight, not both!), so when there was an opportunity to review one I volunteered to test out and let you know my honest opinions.

Let’s start with the front sight.

FT Bullseye Front Sight

Pros & Cons

Pros:

  • Reasonably priced
  • Simple install
  • Designed for your gun
  • Compact
  • Very bright
  • Accurate

Cons:

  • It takes some time to get used to
  • It’s almost too bright for the night

Honestly, I was the least excited about the MEPRO FT Bullseye front sight, and I don’t know why. Maybe I was skeptical because MEPRO claims it doesn’t require rear sights to align it with the target, but I was more excited to test the rear sight, so my expectations were lower going into testing the front sight.

I find the price very reasonable for aftermarket sights, as the stock sights on my Smith & Wesson Shield were less than ideal. Don’t worry if you don’t own a Shield; six brands are available with several model options to ensure you get a snug fit.

I found the installation process simple and straightforward, but I’ve also replaced the sights on a few firearms, so I’m starting to get the hang of it. If you don’t want to risk scratching your precision pistol, take it to a gunsmith.

Unlike a bulky red dot sight, the FT Bullseye front sight is crazy compact. It’s slightly longer than a traditional front sight, but it’s no higher, so you won’t have to worry about catching on clothing or a holster for those of us who carry a pistol for protection.

I also found this sight to be ridiculously bright. I shot it on a sunny day and had zero problems seeing the green dot in the circle. And my eyes are not the greatest! However, at night, it’s almost too bright. It can give away your position in the dark; yes, it’s that bright, but it also makes it difficult to focus on the target.

The biggest surprise was how accurate I was with the front sight. I’m so used to lining up the front and rear sights that my first few shots just felt off, but once I got over the slight awkwardness, I surprised myself by being just as accurate with this sight as I was with my old sights.

Overall, I was thoroughly impressed with the  MEPRO FT Bullseye front sight and won’t hesitate to continue training with it for self-defense. It blew my expectations out of the water.

Pros & Cons

Pros:

  • Reasonably priced
  • Simple install
  • Designed for your gun
  • Super compact
  • Very bright

Cons:

  • I was not as accurate
  • Almost too bright for shooting in the dark

I was most excited to try out the MEPRO FT Bullseye rear sight because I liked the look and concept better. While the back sight is more expensive than the front sight, it’s still on par with other aftermarket sights.

I like the concept better because it’s almost idiot-proof to install correctly—at least I did it without any complications. I love the rear sight because the dovetail goes across the whole slide, making it very easy to center.

While it was simple to center on the slide, I was surprised when I wasn’t as accurate with this sight, but I also had a couple of factors going against me. First, it was crazy windy when I went to the range, like blow you off your feet kind of windy so I wouldn’t have been accurate with any sights. Second, it’s still new. I’m still getting used to this sight, so as with most things, it will take some time to get used to it, but I don’t suspect it will take long.

With eleven gun brand options in various models, you can find the sights created for your pistol. You’re not getting generic sights; these were engineered to fit your gun precisely.

The MEPRO FT Bullseye rear sight is a little bulkier than the front sight, but it still easily fits in most holsters and is unlikely to catch on clothing as you draw from a concealed position because the sight is extremely low profile.

Despite being low profile, it’s ridiculously bright. Whether you’re standing in direct sunlight or in the dark, you’ll have no problem seeing this sight. However, this can be a downside when it’s pitch black in your house late at night, as it’s almost blinding and takes a bit for your eyes to adjust to it.

Even with the minor cons, the MEPRO FT Bullseye rear sight will stay installed on my EDC as I train because I love the design, functionality, and durability. It’ll take some time to get used to this new style, but I currently enjoy it.

Parting Shots

There’s no doubt in my mind that the MEPRO FT Bullseye sights are an upgrade from the iron sights that were initially on my Smith & Wesson Shield. I’d even put them up against red dots because they’re more compact and don’t require batteries.

While they take a little time to get used to, you’ll quickly see why I love my new sights from MEPROLIGHT when you install your sights on your pistol and take it to the range.
