Photo Of The Day: Meet the AK M4A, the latest addition to the Swedish Armed Forces' small arms inventory. This rifle is a variant of the Colt M4A1 and has officially been adopted under the designation AK M4A.

Following a temporary shooting ban on the AK 24 due to reported issues with delayed firing on some individual rifles, the Swedish military has activated a contingency plan. As work continues to address the AK 24's technical concerns, previously acquired rifles from the U.S. manufacturer Colt will be brought into service.

Starting August 1, 2025, the AK M4A will be used to train conscripts, cadets, and the battalion preparing to deploy as Sweden’s NATO contribution to Latvia in 2026.

The issued AK M4A comes fully equipped with a red dot sight (model 18B, made by Aimpoint), sling, vertical foregrip, magazines, and a cleaning kit.

These images are from when marksmanship instructors from across the country completed their transition training on the new rifle, under the direction of Markstridsskolan at the Kvarn training facility.

Markstridsskolan trains the future leaders of the Swedish Armed Forces using advanced training facilities, experienced instructors, and extensive expertise.

Did you ever expect the Colt M4A1 to show up like this? Let us know in the comments.
