POTD: Tanfoglio Gold Custom Eric - Shooting Open .38 Super Comp

In TFB’s Photo Of The Day, we’re shooting in the Open Division today, with a Tanfoglio Gold Custom Eric. The pistol is chambered in .38 Super Comp and eats major loads like a blue whale consumes krill. For training, there’s also a 9 mm slide and barrel available - with a suitable recoil spring of course. Why does it carry my name? Well, it doesn’t, since it’s named after the French top gun Eric Graufel during his (long) period with the Italian company Tanfoglio. Eric is now with CZ, and I think he has no less than nine IPSC Handgun World Champion titles in total.

The sight may look a little odd, not counting the Hello Kitty sticker, but it’s a C More Serendipity which was a market leader before the new modern red dots appeared. To get the C More closer to the barrel, for a faster sight picture, top gunners mounted the C More 90 degrees. That’s the reason you can only see parts of the optic in this image.

I could never figure out why the 38 Super didn’t become the go-to cartridge for anything pistol. Shooting a 38 Super and 45 Auto side by side proves there’s no comparison in control ability. All while giving near 357 magnum ballistics.

Who makes more budget friendly 38 Supers?
