POTD: One Wheel, Three Calibers – The Smith & Wesson Governor

Welcome back to TFB’s Photo Of The Day, where we celebrate not just great images, but the firearms that stand out from the crowd. Today’s star? The  a revolver that doesn’t believe in playing by the rules.

While most wheelguns stick to one or possibly two calibers, the Governor is chambered in .45 ACP, .45 Colt, and .410 bore, giving you unrivaled versatility in a defensive handgun. Whether you’re loading slugs, buckshot, birdshot, or hollow points, the Governor handles them all, thanks to its stainless steel cylinder designed for multi-caliber performance.

With its 2.75-inch barrel, lightweight scandium alloy frame, and 6-round capacity, the Governor offers a compact yet powerful package that’s as much at home on the nightstand as it is in a shoulder holster.

Moon clips allow for quick reloads with .45 ACP, while .410 shells open up a whole new category of close-range effectiveness. In a single cylinder, you can stack shells, slugs, and standard revolver loads—a true jack-of-all-trades for those who want options.

They’re available for $999 and you can find the product page here:

I think the name says it all: the Governor rules over three calibers. Which caliber would you choose as your primary option?

The original "what is this for?" revolver

It's not a target gun, but it has a place. The fact that it's a 6-shot instead of 5 is great, because a 5-shot revolver is a hide-out gun (unless it's a .454 Casull) and moon clips for .45ACP make all the sense in the world.

And being an "N" frame lets it handle warm-ish .45 LC loads, it's stronger than a Colt SAA. Sometimes in snake country, a couple of hardball rounds are nice to have.

I have to custom make snake loads for my RedHawk.
