MDT Releases Lightweight Mountain And Backcountry Bipods

MDT continues to expand its line of bipods. There are two new lightweight models made for hunters who want to keep their gun weights low without giving up capability. Let’s take a look at the features of each one.

The Backcountry Bipod weighs only five ounces and extends from 8.3 inches to 13.8 inches. It achieves that low weight through its carbon fiber and aluminum construction. The Backcountry Bipod offers 80 degrees of cant and a full 360 degrees of pan travel. It retails for $299.
From the manufacturer:
"Built for the ounce-counters, the MDT Backcountry Bipod strips it down to what matters most: lightweight performance, simplicity, and rock-solid function.
Based on the same New Zealand-born design as the MDT Mountain Bipod, it pares things down to the essentials—trading leg splay and some adjustability for a leaner price and an even lighter pack. When half an ounce less gear means one more day in the wild, this is the bipod you reach for.
Skip the extra frills to get everything you need—and nothing you don’t—for serious mountain hunts."
Stepping up, the Mountain Bipod is slightly heavier at 5.8 ounces. It can adjust all the way from 2.7 inches to 15.8 inches, but does not offer any panning. The legs can spread to an almost horizontal extent. Both Arca and Picatinny mount options are offered by MDT. It retails for $449.
From the manufacturer:
“The MDT Mountain Bipod started with a question every ounce-counting hunter asks the night before a big trip: ''Where can I cut weight without sacrificing performance?''
Originally designed in the brutal New Zealand backcountry, refined, and field-tested by some of the most weight-conscious mountain hunters in the world, this hunting bipod has earned a reputation for being insanely light and adjustable, without compromising stability.
Now part of the MDT lineup, the MDT Mountain Bipod is lightweight, stable, and purpose-built for hunters pushing into serious terrain. The result is a refined, mountain-ready bipod that trims weight without trimming performance, freeing up room for the things that matter on a long hunt.
Lighter to pack = more food = longer range = better chances of success.”
