Everyman's Double Rifle: Pedersoli Kodiak Survivalist .44 Magnum
Italian firearm manufacturer Davide Pedersoli has a very unique new gun for 2026. The Kodiak Survivalist is a double rifle chambered in .44 Magnum. It maintains the styling of a dangerous game double while offering a much more accessible price point (for both the gun and the ammunition) than traditional options.

Double rifles are usually among the most expensive firearms available, with five or six-digit prices being the norm. Ammunition prices are usually $10+ per round. But the expense, mystique, and allure of a double rifle taken on a safari for dangerous game still entices many shooters despite the expense.
If your game pursuits tend to be more North American, and your gun money does not come from a trust fund, Pedersoli has a very fun way to experience a double rifle without the same level of financial commitment. The Kodiak Survivalist is chambered in .44 Remington Magnum, which is much easier to find and far more affordable than .470 Nitro Express or .450/400 ammo. It has 18-inch barrels and weighs just 5 ¾ pounds.
From the manufacturer:
“EXPRESS: by definition, a safe and extremely fast-action double rifle, thanks to the side by side barrels, instantly ready for the second shot.
Normally, this feature traditionally adds weight, the Kodiak Survivalist was meticulously engineered to preserve both responsiveness and effortless field carry.
We worked to find a solution by developing the Kodiak Survivalist model as a compact express rifle chambered in the powerful .44 Remington Magnum.
This well-known caliber, intended primarily for handguns, features shorter barrels that, combined with the compact size of the action, make the overall weight to just 2.65 kg.
The gun's aesthetics are naturally classic, with the color-case hardened frame and the oil-finished walnut stock enhanced with sophisticated checkering.
For those who favor modern capability alongside classic form, an optional Picatinny rail integrates seamlessly with the pre-drilled rib, allowing the use of contemporary optics without disrupting the rifle’s clean lines or natural balance.”
An optional Picatinny rail is available if you prefer to run an optic. It also includes fiber optic front and rear sights for better visibility. Online listings for the Kodiak Survivalist show a price point around $2500. A pith helmet is not included, but this rifle is guaranteed to make your next feral pig or deer hunt feel more like the adventures of Harry Selby or Teddy Roosevelt.

Need to make it in 460s&w mag. That allows you to shoot everything from 45 scolfield 45 colt, 454 Casull, and 460 S&W. Shooting a 300 gr bullet at 2100fps While not a hot as something 450 nitro express which can sling a 450-500 gr bullet at a similar velocity a 460 S&W can very comfortably take everything in North America and could be considered a stopping cartridge for grizzly when using solids. A 500 S&W mag would be pretty cool as well both would work great against grizzly and be a cool little American specialized double rifle. I’m not really interested in a 44 mag, just not stout enough to be considered a stopping rifle which is what you are looking for in a double rifle.
Hope this is successful!
It'd be pretty neat if it branched into other rimmed rounds like 3030
