Brace Yourself: Taurus Introduces the Brace-Ready TX22

Taurus has expanded its TX22 rimfire lineup with the Brace-Ready TX22, a version of the popular .22 LR pistol built to accept a stabilizing brace. Released in 2019, the TX22 has built a strong following among rimfire shooters. The new model keeps the familiar platform but adds an extra point of support for better stability and control.

The brace is the Strike Industries FSA Lite. It is a lightweight folding design, and its compact footprint is meant to suit the slim TX22 without adding unnecessary bulk. Taurus will offer the pistol in two configurations. One ships with the FSA Lite already fitted. The other comes in brace-ready form, prepared for a brace to be added later.

Beyond the brace, the Brace-Ready TX22 carries over several features TX22 owners will recognize. The TORO (Taurus Optic Ready Option) slide is cut for RMSc-pattern optics, which covers a wide range of compact red dots. The barrel is threaded, and each pistol ships with one 22-round and one 16-round magazine. State-compliant models are also available.

The threaded barrel ties into a natural pairing: Taurus' own TTX22 suppressor. The TTX Suppressor Series, announced September 18, marks Taurus' first entry into the suppressor business. The TTX22 is made from sintered titanium built up through additive manufacturing, with a monocore design under a high-temperature Cerakote C-Series finish. It measures 5.5 in (140 mm) long, weighs 3.71 oz (105 g) and mounts via 1/2x28 direct thread. The can is listed for .22 LR, .22 WMR, .17 HMR and 5.7x28mm and carries an MSRP of $299.99, and it is full-auto rated.

The brace-ready version looks like this, with the 10-rounders. MSRP: $416.99

Taurus Brace-Ready TX22 Highlights:

  • Chambered in .22 LR
  • Available with a factory-fitted Strike Industries FSA Lite folding brace or in a brace-ready configuration
  • TORO optics-ready slide cut for RMSc-pattern optics
  • Threaded barrel for suppressor use
  • Ships with one 22-round and one 16-round magazine
  • State-compliant models available
  • MSRP $: 507.99

Does a brace make sense on a lightweight rimfire pistol, or is it mostly about the fun factor?

A friend of mine purchased one of these. We had no clue that it was a great FRT host or that an entire community was moding them.
