Beretta is adding a new compact model to the APX A1 family. With a 3.7-inch barrel and 15-round magazine, the APX A1 Compact fits in between the Full Size and Carry models. Let’s see what other features it brings to the table.

Like the other APX A1 variants, the Compact is optics-ready. Fiber optic sights are also standard. In addition, three interchangeable backstraps of varying sizes are included. An ambidextrous slide stop lever is also included, and the magazine release is reversible for wrong-handed users.

The grip module is interchangeable with other APX A1 models thanks to the serialized trigger mechanism. The Compact model includes an accessory rail, trigger undercut, and flat, textured trigger guard front. While the standard capacity is 15 rounds, a 10-round model is also available for ban states. The APX A1 Compact is available at retailers now. The MSRP is $499, but street prices are around $399 as of the time of writing.

The APX A1 Compact is ready to impress with its speed, thanks to one of the shortest resets in its class, a lighter, constant trigger weight spread over a short stroke, improved ergonomics, and carriage grip notches that are also milled for mounting the most common red dots on the market.
Compact shares the entire design layout starting with the unique removable chassis, shared by the entire APX platform, the calibre (9×19), the new trigger with rounded contours, the redesigned ergonomics of the barrel, the red-dot optics readiness, the ambidextrous bolt stop lever and more.

I'm glad Beretta had success with their APX in the MIL/LE market but have my doubts they're going to succeed on the civilian market even with the A1.

  @Jeff Hewitt Outside of the US (where it has had very little success in LE contracts), the APX has gotten contracts in Brazil, Italy, and Poland. The Brazil contract alone probably made the APX financially viable with 159,000 sold.
  It probably flies under the radar and sells just fine in the US consumer market, given that you can stroll in to just about any Cabela's/Bass Pro and buy one for $400, or $150 cheaper than a Glock 17/P320 Nitron. Margins aren't as good as Glock or SIG, but volume should be pretty good.

  @Jeff Hewitt The great thing about Beretta is that you can rest assured this gun is going to run perfectly from the box. People chasing the latest variations from Springfield and SIG will spend a lot of time worrying about recalls and stories of lawsuits. I myself prefer the more conservative approach of HK and Beretta to the purveyors of "grip zones" and "legion" membership cards.

  @greghowardbell Work perfectly out of the box? My dad got one. It shot 5" high at 7 yards. Its apparently a common enough problem that Beretta will sell you a front sight kit with 3 or 4 different height sights in it.

This is AWESOME news. I really like the Full Size A1, such a fine quality pistol at a great affordable price.
