The 6.5mm Creedmoor finally has some more published data behind it for prospective reloaders of the caliber. Sierra Bullets, the company known for good bullets in green boxes, finally has some published data on the hot little Creedmoor.

It is interesting if you notice in the cover photo of this article that Sierra Bullets designates 6mm Creedmoor as 6mm/6.5 Creedmoor. It sounds like a combination of 6mm Creedmoor and 6.5 Creedmoor; two similar calibers, but they use entirely different bullets. The 6mm Creedmoor, not surprisingly, uses 0.243″ diameter bullets while the 6.5 Creedmoor employs 0.264″ diameter projectiles. So why the funny name? Da heck is goin’ on!

Well, since SAAMI (Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers’ Institute) has not fully approved the chamber and cartridge drawings of 6mm Creedmoor yet it is deemed a wildcat cartridge. As a result, Sierra Bullets refers to 6mm Creedmoor as “6mm/6.5 Creedmoor” for the time being.

Is it confusing? Yes.

Is it necessary? Yes, since this data will be formally appearing in Sierra Bullets’ next reloading manual, it is necessary.

The reloading data that Sierra Bullets recently published on their company blog uses a lot of popular powders you may already have at your reloading bench or should be easy to source at your local gun shop. Such handloading favorites like Varget, Benchmark, CFE 223 and H4350. It also employs bullets everywhere from a 55 Grain Blitzking to a 110 Grain Matchking.

All 9 pages that Sierra published can be read below and are available for download as a PDF on the Sierra Bullets blog.

@Klaus Von Schmitto For the price, I think I'd have to live in the barrel with the Varget. ;)
