Compact Capacity that can Conceal - NEW Springfield 1911 DS Prodigy Compact

Springfield Armory is bringing the heat and it's not even SHOT Show yet. Today, they have announced their new 1911 DS Prodigy Compact handguns which will bolster their already large family of Prodigy pistols. With 3.5” and 4.25” barrel options, shooters and EDC enthusiasts can toy with multiple options in a more compact configuration.

Springfield Armory @ TFB:

The Springfield Armory 1911 DS Prodigy Compact is - unsurprisingly - a more compact iteration of their popular 5” 1911 DS Prodigy (1911 “Double Stack - DS” aka a 2011-style handgun). For people who want the same reliability, but in a smaller form factor for duty or everyday concealability, the new 1911 DS Prodigy Compact might have a home within your arsenal.

As mentioned earlier, there are 2 barrel length sizes for you to prospectively choose from. The super compact 3.5” barrel, or the medium compact size in the 4.25” offering. Both carry the same MSRP as presented below:

“The new Prodigy™ Compact from Springfield Armory takes the proven 1911 platform and enhances it with double-stack capacity and a carry-driven feature set. Reconfigured around a 15-round double-stack magazine, the Prodigy’s polymer grip module mounts to its forged lightweight aluminum frame to reduce weight. Optics ready with an ambidextrous safety and picatinny rail, the Prodigy combines the most beloved characteristics of the 1911 with modern capacity for unrivalled performance.”

We will have a full-fledged review on one of the 3.5” Prodigy Compact handguns later today. So, stay tuned! As always, let us know all of your thoughts about Springfield Armory and their 1911 DS Prodigy Compact 9mm pistols in the Comments below! We always appreciate your feedback.

I have the full-size Prodigy with the comp cut. The gun shots very well, is extremely accurate and because of the weight has very little muzzle flip. It's a decent lower cost competition gun. Is it as good as a Bull Armory or a Staccato? Probably not but it costs a lot less and for my ability level is just fine.
