Silencer Saturday #361: Hunting With Suppressors
Welcome back to another edition of Silencer Saturday. Last week we looked at suppressing the Beretta Cheetah. This week we’re jumping from little subsonic pistol calibers up to hunting rifles. Last month, TFB writer and OutdoorHub editor Rusty wrote a great piece about why he loves hunting with silencers. That inspired me to share some of my own thoughts on the topic.
Silencer Saturday #359: A Primer On Subsonic Ammunition
Recently, the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson has absolutely dominated the news cycle. A silencer featured prominently in that assassination and led to all sorts of wild conjecture about what exactly was used. Another related topic was subsonic ammunition, both whether it was used and whether it would have accounted for the malfunctions seen with the suspect’s gun. This article is going to break down subsonic ammunition, what it is and what it isn’t, and why many of the popular assumptions from video games and the media are not very accurate.
The New Q Southpaw
The mad scientists at Q have announced their first dedicated 5.56x45mm suppressor, the Q Southpaw. Never distracted from its mission, the Southpaw follows the same key design philosophies of the “Live Free or Die” state company’s product lineup, being compact and lightweight while providing durability, reliability, performance, and simplicity.
Low Back Pressure Suppressors - Do They Really Make A Difference?
I love to shoot. Especially when I don’t have to pay for the ammo. And thankfully, life gave me plenty of opportunities to do that when I did trials and weapon testing in different countries. I wore out gloves in 7 days just from constant magazine loading, more than once my shoulder looked like one giant bruise with skin peeling off, and a couple of guns exploded in my hands, but that never once stopped me from shooting more. Until one day in 2018, when we went to the indoor range to test a newer version of the 9 mm SMG “Vityaz” (КR-9). It had a conventional suppressor, what was unconventional was the insane amount of backpressure - gas that was coming back into the action and hitting the shooter in the face.
Silencer Saturday #354: SHOT Show 2025 Predictions
Welcome back to another edition of Silencer Saturday. Last week we took a closer look at the SilencerCo Velos LBP. This week we will be talking about what we may see from the silencer world at SHOT Show 2025. Both the blog and TFBtv teams are gearing up for our full coverage of the upcoming event, and I have a few guesses about trends and new products we may see.
10 Best Home Defense Rifles
Today, I’ll share my top 10 picks for home defense rifles. All 10 suggestions are actual rifles by legal definition, thereby inclusive for friends of ours living in places where SBRs don’t exist and pistol-braced shorties are regulated into single-shot paperweights. Most, if not all of these rifles are good to go or at least adaptable into compliant configuration where necessary, I hope to provide you with a relatively universal and solidly capable list of home defense options.
Silencer Saturday #350: New Direct Thread Gemtech Silencers
Welcome back to another edition of Silencer Saturday. This week we are taking a look at some new silencers from Gemtech. These models swap the original quick detach mounting systems for direct thread mounts. Why might that be something that you want to do? And what are the specific models with changes? Let’s go.
Angstadt Arms' NEW HUB Compatible Integral Suppressor - The Prophet
Luke C ( @BallisticAviation) is back at TriggrCon 2024 to talk with Rich Angstadt of Angstadt Arms about some of their newest suppressors. In previous years we've checked out their 9mm integrally suppressed PCCs and Rich and his team have now expanded that same concept to include the Vanquish for the 10/22 platform, and now the Prophet which does just about everything you can think of. In addition to bringing along a ported full-length barrel, the new Prophet suppressor is a HUB-compatible silencer capable of handling virtually any common caliber on the market found in the AR platform. Today Rich tells us all about his new suppressors and what he thinks makes them stand out among the litany of suppressors already on the market.
Silencer Saturday #348: Suppressing The Uzi
Welcome back to another edition of Silencer Saturday. This week we are looking at how to suppress the Uzi submachine gun. The Uzi is a legend, in part for its longevity. It entered service in 1954 and continues to soldier on around the globe. But with that age come some idiosyncrasies for suppressor use.

Savage Arms is introducing a new addition to its AccCan series of high-performance suppressors, the AC350, designed specifically for the 350 Legend. Let’s take a closer look at the Lazarus 6 and see how this suppressor sets itself apart from the pack.
Silencer Saturday #342: What Is The Best First Silencer
In my time working a gun counter, I have sold a lot of silencers. But I have also had the “what silencer should I buy?” conversation at least five times for every silencer sold. So what is the right first silencer to buy? I can’t answer that for you, but I can help you ask the right questions.
Silencer Saturday #340: The SHUSH Act Reintroduced In Congress
There's another silencer deregulation bill making the rounds in Washington D.C. The Silencers Help Us Save Hearing Act (SHUSH Act) aims to take silencers out of regulation under the National Firearms Act (NFA), among other things. This is not the first time a SHUSH Act has been introduced, and this iteration has some interesting changes.
