[SHOT 2025] ZEV Technologies Folding Defensive Platform (FDP)
ZEV Technologies partnered with Magpul to finally bring the long-awaited FDP (Folding Defensive Platform) to the market. This folding firearm was first introduced by Magpul in 2008 and will soon (April 2025) be available for purchase as a pistol or carbine.

The FDP is chambered in 9mm and takes Glock magazines. The carbine version has a stock which I guess makes it an SBR whereas the FDP-Pistol has a sling swivel at the rear. The 7.052” barrel is made of 416 stainless steel. The slide material is 17-4 stainless steel and the frame is machined out of 4140 steel. All steel components are black nitrided.
Deploying the gun from its folded state is a matter of pressing a button and can be done extremely quickly. And of course, it folds into a very compact rectangular shape that’s 1.5” wide, 10.75” - 11.5” long (depending on the model) and 6.375” - 6.75” high. The deployed length is 20.125” or 20.875”. The overall weight is 3.25 lbs.
The ZEV FDP also features an ambidextrous charging handle, a reversible magazine release button and adjustable iron sights built into the carry handle. Interestingly, there are two Picatinny rail sections facing each other in the area below the front extension of the carry handle.

I own a B&T BWC but I believe the FDP has some benefits over the BWC, one can run the FDP hot it doesn’t require the magazine to be seated, it has a manual safety and the slide release can be utilized.
