MRAD or MOA? Vortex’s New 4-24x44 FFP Covers Both Bases
Vortex Optics has launched the Razor HD Gen III 4-24x44 FFP riflescope, a mid-to-long-range optic engineered for tactical operators and precision competition shooters who demand compact size without sacrificing optical performance. Available in both MOA and MRAD reticle variants, the new 4-24x44 joins the Gen III family as a versatile bridge between the 1-10x24 LPVO and the 6-36x56 high-magnification model.
Vortex Optics @ TFB:
Measuring 12.5 inches in length and weighing 32.3 ounces, the Razor HD Gen III 4-24x44 is 1.3 inches shorter and 4.7 ounces lighter than the Gen III 6-36x56, making it optimized for designated marksman rifles (DMRs) built on shorter actions like the 18- to 20-inch barrel AR-10 platforms or compact bolt guns. Despite the reduced footprint, Vortex retains the same HD glass system, featuring index-matched, XR Plus fully multi-coated lenses that deliver 91% light transmission (according to Vortex’s lab data) and edge-to-edge clarity across the 4-24x range.
The EBR-7D first-focal-plane reticle, etched on low-dispersion glass, minimizes holdover clutter by relocating windage values to the outer posts while retaining 0.2 MRAD (or 0.5 MOA) subtensions for precise ranging. A center cross-plex and 11-level rotary illumination dial (powered by a single CR2032 battery with 150-hour runtime on medium setting) supports low-light target acquisition down to 0.4 lux conditions. Independent testing by the National Tactical Officers Association is said to have confirmed the reticle visibility and hold accuracy at 1,000 yards under mixed lighting.
Turret performance centers on the L-Tec+ Zero System: a push-pull locking elevation turret with 34 MRAD (or 120 MOA) total travel, 10 MRAD per revolution, and a visual/tactile revolution indicator. Zero-stop activation requires no tools, and return-to-zero repeatability is tested to ±0.1 MRAD over 500 cycles. The windage turret mirrors the design with 25 MRAD total adjustment.
Shockproof to 1,200 Gs, waterproof to IPX7 (1 meter for 30 minutes), and fog-proof via argon purging, the 34mm 6061-T6 aluminum tube withstands .50 BMG recoil and -40°F to 160°F temperature swings. An included throw lever and tethered turret caps round out the field-ready package.
The MSRP is $4,199.99, showing that Vortex covers both the low-end and high-end markets. Full specs and reticle diagrams are available at VortexOptics.com, or if you prefer, this direct link (MOA version): https://vortexoptics.com/razor-hd-gen-iii-4-24x44-ffp-riflescope+reticle-EBR-7D~MOA

Is a scope coming in either MOA or MIL really newsworthy now?
Now Vortex thinks they're Nightforce or S&B or Khales. Noted.
