Introducing the New In-House Polymer Savage Bipod

Savage has long been known for their extensive lineup of long guns for hunters, recreational, and precision shooters. Many of their firearms usually get paired with a bipod to make the entire rig more useful and that’s why Savage is proud to introduce the new Savage Bipod line. This new in-house line of Bipods from savage will come in both M-LOK and Swivel variants and weighs in at around 11 ounces keeping it night and lightweight like other polymer bipods. It also features simple-to-use controls and a bunch of other small features that make it perfect for those who like to get their rifles in the dirt and brush.

The new Savage Bipod line will start pricing at a $99 MSRP and can be found currently through Savage’s network of dealers in one color – black. The Savage Bipod in both its variants weighs less than 13 ounces, has a max extension of about 10 inches, 50° of cant, and a maximum footprint width of 11.5″ with the legs fully extended.

The “one-handed” controls include buttonless stowage with a “flick to deploy” deployment method, as well as other cool features like numbered leg positions along with internal button shielding to keep debris like sand and dirt from entering the critical moving components. While this is just a first offering in the Bipod department from Savage, I would expect to see other popular colorways like FDE to eventually show up for a similar price, as well as other models with different features.

These bipods seem to be made under license, likely by MDT but this is purely just speculation on my part. I also personally love the design of the new bipod and even if it offers no increased practical value over other similarly priced polymer bipod offerings, it at least gives people one additional option to choose from when selecting accessories for their rifle. Of course, we’d like to hear your thoughts on this new product from Savage. Do you think this polymer bipod offering offers anything over the other current competitors already on the market?

  @Ahab I'd say these are better than the magpul bipods. The MOE bipod is lighter weight but has worse adjustability (no tilt). The full feature magpul bipod has a Pan feature which basically no one wants and allows way to much play in the pan/tilt mechanisim (which can be fixed). Also the tensioning device on the magpul bipod sticks out the bottom of the bipod when it is folded making it slightly annoying while Oryx bipod has a flat bottom. I'm thinking about making a video comparing the Harris bipod to the MDT oryx bipod.

  @Uncle Yar basically it comes down to if you like to preload your bipod when you shoot. MDT oryx is better if you want to preload because it has a little bit of play in the folding legs while the Harris bipods almost have no play so it's harder to preload (you're basically trying to bend the legs at that point). If you're shooting off a flat surface I'd say the harris is a bit more stable because you're not trying to push/preload the bipod like you'd want with the Oryx which would result in you slipping across the surface until you find traction.
  Another couple things to note. If you get a Tilt adjustable Harris you'll want to get a pod lock lever to make it easier to tension the tilt mechanisim which is another $30. The Oryx already comes with an easy to adjust lever.
  A negative for the Oryx is that you can't replace the feet with spikes or replacement rubber feet like you can with the Harris. Also most of the oryx bipod is made of plastic so if you prefer a metal better the harris would be more appealing but I had no issue with the plastic on the ORYX.
  in terms of mounting, The sling stud version of the Oryx is easier to mount vs a normal sling stuf mounting harris but I'm gonna assume most people want an MLOK interface. Oryx bipod was designed with having MLOK interface in mind while the Harris would require a mlok sling stud or you'll have to pay more to get the MLOK mounting version (according to their website $140 vs $110 for the sling stud version)

That is indeed an MDT Oryx, not surprising considering they make a lot of chassis' for Savage.
