After some teasing, Weatherby has officially launched the 25 Weatherby RPM (25 WBY RPM) as the latest addition to its high-performance magnum cartridge family. Designed with the company’s signature innovation and precision, the 25 RPM delivers a flat trajectory and enhanced velocity in a compact, rebated-rim magnum case. There will be several factory loads available, but the caliber is described as a reloader's dream.

The 25 Weatherby RPM is part of Weatherby’s Rebated Precision Magnum (RPM) series, which emphasizes efficient magnum performance without the bulk of traditional belted magnum cartridges. The cartridge is engineered for shooters seeking long-range capability in a .25-caliber platform, combining high velocities with retained energy to extend effective range in the field.

Rifles chambered for the 25 RPM will utilize Weatherby’s Mark V action, the six-lug platform designed for high-pressure magnum cartridges. This includes Weatherby’s Backcountry, Backcountry Ti, and other Mark V rifle variants, providing shooters with a lightweight, high-strength platform optimized for precision and reliability. The Mark V action’s reputation for accuracy and durability should make it an ideal match for the RPM series. The Model 307 rifles will also work with the new caliber, like the Alpine MDT Carbon below.

The suggested twist rate is an ultra fast 1:7.5", and on the product page, you can compare its performance versus a bunch of other calibers. It does look like it’s a straight-shooter, for sure.

Some examples of compatible rifles.

For reloaders, the 25 Weatherby RPM is described as a dream. Developed for today’s long, high-ballistic-coefficient .25-caliber bullets, giving shooters the ability to use modern projectiles without losing powder capacity. With a maximum overall length of 3.34 inches and 0.940 inches of seating depth, the cartridge easily accommodates streamlined bullet profiles while maintaining the velocity and energy Weatherby cartridges are known for.

The 35° shoulder creates an efficient, modern case design, while a 72.5-grain H₂O case capacity ensures consistent performance. Compared to the 25 Creedmoor, the RPM offers roughly 40% more case capacity, translating to increased velocity and long-range potential. Unprimed brass will also be available.

Along with the ballistics chart, we need to see the exorbitant price for a box of 20 cartridges to make an informed opinion about just how ridiculous this is
