GLOCK GR-115 Selected as UK Police National Primary Carbine
Following the most comprehensive small-arms trial conducted by UK policing in more than 20 years, the GLOCK GR-115 rifle has been selected for UK specialist armed units through two separate procurement awards. GLOCK won an exclusive contract to supply a high-level specialist national policing network, and the GR-115 also ranked highest among carbines approved under the broader framework agreement. Evaluated against competing rifles from multiple global manufacturers, the GR-115 recorded the highest accuracy results in both suppressed and unsuppressed testing.
POTD: British Nuclear Police – Now & Then
The Civil Nuclear Constabulary at one of the UK’s nuclear powerplants in Sellafield, Cumbria recently shared a cool ‘then and now’ photo on Twitter. The CNC are a special police force responsible for protecting Britain’s civil nuclear power infrastructure. As such most CNC officers are authorised firearms officer. The UK’s CNC is based at 10 sites around the UK with Sellafield being one of three operational sites.
UK Police Discuss Arming Officers
British police chiefs continue to consider the general issue of firearms to police officers as a response to the escalating threat of terrorism. Officers in remote, rural communities could be routinely armed either with a sidearm or a vehicle-stored weapon.
Rural UK Police Forces Consider General Issue Sidearms
A number of British police forces are considering arming their officers. The move comes in the wake of the UK suffering five high profile terror attack in 2017. Three regional police forces are reported to feel that the large areas they police mean that the current system of only specially trained firearms officers being armed limits their ability to respond to terrorism and serious crimes involving firearms.
UK MoD Armed Police Failed to Meet Training Standards
It has emerged that the UK’s Ministry of Defence Police have failed to meet firearms training standards. The specialist non-military police force is tasked with protecting sites of national importance such as the Royal Navy’s base at Faslane, Scotland – the home of Britain’s Trident nuclear arsenal.
