Federal Ammunition has just secured itself another high-profile government contract. According to an announcement from the American ammo manufacturer, it’s secured a 12-month contract to provide 7.62x51mm rifle ammunition to SOCOM.

This week’s host is TFB senior staff writer Austin R. who has a very application-specific suppressor – the B&T MK23 suppressor. Let’s take a look.

During a video introducing some new products published on 31 August, Bill Geissele announced that Geissele’s submission to US SOCOM’s MRGG-S (Mid-Range Gas Gun) program had been selected. The new rifle appears to have beaten out rival designs from other down-selected companies, including FN and LMT.

SAR makes handguns for the Turkish military and special forces, and they also make concealed carry guns for the US market. Hop stopped by the SAR USA booth at NRA Annual Meeting 2023 to check out the new Gen 2 and Gen 3 SAR optics ready carry guns, and the SAR9 SOCOM pistol designed for Turkish SF.

For those who do not know Alex Young, he is an avid aficionado and collector of Colt products and rare AR-15s. I wrote an article on his collection of original Colt roll dies for the AR-15 and M16. Well, Alex has managed to acquire a Colt OHWS. Here are some photos he shared of his Colt OHWS.

The US Department of Defense has ordered over $80 million worth of Carl Gustaf recoilless rifle ammunition and shoulder-launched AT4CS RS (confined space and reduced sensitivity) anti-armour weapon systems. The order was made within a 2019 Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity contract. The AT4CS RS variant was first procured back in 2015. The ammunition and weapons will be used by the U.S. Army, U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM) and U.S. Marine Corps.

SIG Sauer is set to be awarded a contract to fulfil US Special Operations Command’s requirement for a commercial, off-the-shelf, personal defense weapon (CPDW). A notice of intent from SOCOM to award a five-year Firm Fixed Price (FFP) contract was shared on 19 May. Following on from their recent success with the NGSW program, SIG Sauer’s  MCX Rattler has been selected and will be procured in 5.56x45mm and .300 BLK. The contract also includes SIG’s SL suppressors.

Many shooters know of Horus from their family of reticles which are licensed out to various scope manufacturers, including big names like Leupold, Nightforce, and Vortex. Recently, Horus entered the scope market with their HoVR 5-20×50 riflescope. Horus graciously sent out a loaner scope for my test and review.

Nightforce have announced that their Nightforce MIL SPEC ATACR 4-20 has been selected by the US Special Operations Command as part of SOCOM’s Miniature Aiming Systems – Day Optic (MAS-D) Program. The Ranging – Variable Power Scope or R-VPS will be mounted on current semi-automatic combat and sniper support weapons including the MK17, MK20, M110A1 and the yet-to-be-selected MRGG (Mid-Range Gas Gun). The contract award had previously been planned for the 4th Quarter of FY2020.

SOFWERX, in concert with USSOCOM PEO-SOF Warrior (PEO-SW) has announced they will be hosting a Lightweight Machine Gun – Medium (LMG-M) Virtual Industry Day to foster the development of the new machine gun sought by US Special Operations Command.

The US Army is forging ahead with the evaluation of the prototype Next Generation Squad Weapon rifles and automatic rifles and it has been confirmed that U.S. Special Operations Command is both involved in the program and watching its developments closely.

With the caption explaining that “the Green Berets utilized the training areas at MCAGCC while supporting ITX as a special operations unit for force on force training.

Back in March 2019, US SOCOM selected the Barrett MRAD to fulfill their requirement for an Advanced Sniper Rifle (ASR). At the end of last year, Nighforce’s MIL-SPEC ATACR 5-25×56 Dayscope and their MIL-SPEC ATACR 7-35×56 Long Range Dayscope l were selected as the go-to optics for the new SOCOM ASR. Now Berger have announced that they have been sub-contracted to produce .300 Norma Magnum and .338 Norma Magnum for SOCOM’s ASRs.
