#M110

Welcome back to another TFB review. In my last review, I took a look at the SIG Sauer MCX Spear LT and if you happened to miss that article, be sure to click the link here to check it out. There've been a number of large framed AR10s to hit the market. Knights Armament made the absolute iconic M110 but never really offered something similar to the civilian market. There are a number of companies that make models similar to the original M110 with modern upgrades. I decided to purchase a TYPE A M110 Restomod to see what it's all about. After a year of ownership, I decided it was the right time to give my thoughts on my experiences.

Since around September 2022, there have been a small but steady stream of sightings of M110 Semi-Automatic Sniper Systems in use with combatants in Ukraine. The rifles began appearing on the southern Kherson front before the city was recaptured.  While the Ukrainian 7.62x51mm UAR-10 designated marksman rifles are regularly seen intermittent sighting of M110s have continued.

Today’s Photo Of The Day is a photo from the U.S. Central Command that shows U.S. Marines with 5th Platoon, Charlie Company, Fleet Anti-Terrorism Security Team, Central Command (or FASTCENT). As you can see, there are two spotters and snipers with the M110 Semi-Automatic Sniper System, in action during a live-fire range operation. According to the caption, FASTCENT provides expeditionary antiterrorism and security forces to embassies, consulates and other vital national assets throughout the region.

B5 Systems is an American company that is focused on engineering military and aerospace solutions. Most of their firearms products focus on rifles and their current product lineup features common parts like trigger guards, QD end plates, handguards, and stocks. In a recent announcement, B5 happily shared that their Collapsible Precision Stock had been selected by the US Army’s Advanced Sniper Accessory Kit that provides upgrades for the Knights Armament M110 Rifle.

Get a coffee, or some water, take a break and enjoy a few minutes off whatever you were doing and take a look at U.S. soldiers assigned to the 1st Battalion, 8th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division. They’re using their M110 semi-automatic sniper systems as part of the zeroing step before the Defender 2022 exercise at Oberlausitz Training Area, Germany. This happened in April 2022.

Photo Of The Day: Above we have U.S. Army Staff Sgt Nathan McGowan and Staff Sgt Benjamin Holley, assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 153rd Infantry Regiment, 39th Brigade, Arkansas National Guard. They are using their Remington M2010 Enhanced Sniper Rifle and M110 Sniper Rifle to fire at their assigned targets during the “Know Your Limits” event on Maertens Range, Fort Benning Ga. earlier in April 2022.

Mission First Tactical is in the business of making affordable AR-15 accessories and they’ve recently released a new set of magazines specifically designed for the 7.62×51 NATO cartridge. The new MFG Extreme Duty Magazines are now available for use with SAAMI-spec 7.62×51 and .308 Winchester ammunition. The new magazines will be made available in both black and flat dark earth and according to Mission First Tactical, these magazines were made in cooperation with Frank DeSomma from Patriot Ordnance Factory and as such, these magazines are dedicated to his memory.

Today’s Photo of the Day takes us to US Marine Corps Camp Pendelton, with a series of photos taken during a standoff munitions disruption (SMUD) training exercise. Marines of the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit tackled a number of munitions using M110 Semi-Automatic Sniper Systems.

Recently TFB told you that the Leupold Mark 5HD was selected by the Army Precision Sniper Rifle Program.  Now the U.S. Army has chosen the same optic for the M110 Semi-Automatic Sniper System.

POTD, short for Photo Of The Day, is TFB’s recurring articles where we try to find the best pictures on the Internet. Today we join the U.S. Marines as they do sniper training with M110 SASSs, M107s and M40 A6s.

Six Point Five Creedmoor – it’s not new, but expect to hear and read more about this caliber as the “ Department of the Navy Office: Naval Sea Systems Command” is looking to buy MK110K1 uppers from  Knight’s Armament Co.

In mid-March, the United States Army held their 10th annual Special Operations Command International Sniper Competition at Fort Bragg in North Carolina.  Twenty-one teams from around the globe participated in the six-day event.  According to the Army Times, there were various, timed courses for two-man teams to complete using 7.62mm, 5.56mm and issued sidearms.  Some simulated enemy small arms fire and artillery were also used to provide a more chaotic atmosphere.  Defense Visual Information Distribution Services ( dvids), had a host of photos documenting the competition.  The photos featured the US teams and showed some of the varied obstacles and courses.

The US Army’s Contracting Command has awarded Knight’s Armament Company a contract for more 7.62x51mm M110 Semi-Automatic Sniper Systems (SASS). Over 10 years on since it was first adopted and nearly five years since the Army began its programme to replace it with a lighter, more compact rifle the Army has placed further orders for an undisclosed number of M110 SASS.
