TFB Review: Ruger LCP MAX 380 Pistol with XS DXT2 Big Dot Sights
9mm micro-compact pistols have been front and center within the pistol world for quite some time now. During the midst of some of the biggest brand names releasing their own version of the 9mm micro compact to the industry, Ruger somewhat sneakily released the LCP MAX 380 pistol which took the super tiny LCP 380 semi-auto pistol with a standard magazine capacity of 6-rounds and bumped that number up to 10 rounds. James Reeves reviewed the LCP MAX 380 over on TFBTV during its initial release but we’ve yet to do that here on the blog side of things. Sometime shortly after the release of the LCP MAX 380, XS Sights came out with dedicated night sights for the pocket-sized 380 and they were gracious enough to send me a copy of their own LCP MAX 380 equipped with their DXT2 Big Dot sights. Today we’ll take a look at both the LCP MAX 380 as well as the XS Sights DXT2 Big Dot sight for it and see if this might be a sensible option for when you’re looking to be as discreet as possible.
Ruger Introduces the New LCP MAX 380 Pistol
Ruger has announced the introduction of their latest offering to the concealed carry community – the LCP MAX. The LCP MAX is a slight departure from the swarm of 9mm micro-compact pistols we’ve seen start to flood the market and I think there are a lot of people who would be happy to pick up this improved .380 model. The new LCP MAX takes the same basic design and size as the LCP II and adds in a few improvements as well as an increase in magazine capacity.
TFB FIELD STRIP: Ruger LCP
The Ruger LCP has been on the market since 2008. The LCP’s small frame and controllable .380 ACP chambering have lent itself well to those that need to carry a firearm in a deeply concealed manner. Its six (plus one) capacity offers enough gun for a close-in self-defense situation where bigger guns are harder to conceal. I’ve mentioned my usage of the LCP for the Concealed Carry Corner article on running HERE. Texas Governor Rick Perry used his LCP to shoot a Coyote that was sizing up his dog.
TFB Review: Ruger LCP II-Small improvements to a small pistol make a BIG difference
I remember the first time I saw a Ruger LCP in person. It was at Gunsite’s pro shop in the spring of 2008. Better built than the P-3AT, it won me over and became part of my regular hot weather carry rotation. I have fired a heck of a lot of rounds out of that Ruger (approximately 3k) and it still works well. Though it’s been a great little pistol for pocket or holstered carry while in running or workout clothes, I always thought there were two areas for improvement: The trigger and the sights.
Ruger Celebrates the LCP with a Limited Edition "Tenth Anniversary" Pistol
It was not too long ago when we did not have overflowing options for concealed carry pistols. Your choices were snubby revolvers or full-frame pistols and that was nearly it. When the Ruger LCP came out 10 years ago as one of the 1st small carry pistols it initiated an avalanche of pistols to come. Now we have endless choices for concealed carry. Even so, the Ruger LCP continues to be a fan favorite. To celebrate the enduring popularity and sales of the Ruger LCP they have produced a Limited Edition “Tenth Anniversary” Pistol for everyone.

NEW: Viridian Lasers for Ruger LCP II
Ruger recently announced their new LCP II which has caused significant interest among .380 ACP fans. The original LCP has been a longtime top-seller of Ruger’s and the updated, modern LCP II will likely match its predecessor (if not outdo it). Of course, new pistols require new accessories which is why Viridian has now unveiled their LCP II-compatible lasers and lights.
