POTD: SIG Sauer P229R DAK
In our Photo Of The Day we visit the Coast Guard Base in Honolulu to take a closer look at the SIG Sauer P229R DAK pistol in action. DAK stands for Double Action Kellerman and according to Wikipedia, the Kellerman action is “a variant of traditional double-action used on certain SIG Sauer semi-automatic pistols. DAK triggers have a long stroke with 29 N (6.5 lbf) pull. However, if a user shooting under stress short-strokes the trigger by only releasing it halfway, the trigger will reset, but with a 38 N (8.5 lbf) pull. This temporary increased trigger pull is intended to prevent negligent discharges.” ( Source)
Wheelgun Wednesday: S&W Model 610, 10mm Revolver
Welcome to TFB’s Wheelgun Wednesday, where we look at the vast world of wheelgunnery. This week we’ll take a look at the S&W Model 610, 10mm revolver I had on loan from Smith & Wesson. The large, “N” framed S&W model 610 utilizes moon clips to extract the six rimless casings once they’ve been fired. I was glad for the opportunity to give the Model 610 a whirl after years of drooling over them. Another plus for this review is that the S&W 610 is able to fire the .40 S&W cartridge, of which I had a backup supply as well as the 10mm Auto I was able to acquire during the great ammo shortage of 2020 & 2021.

Fresno Police Swap 40 S&W for New 9mm Duty Weapons
According to the Fresno Bee, the Fresno Police Department is allegedly switching from its current standard Beretta PX4’s chambered in .40 S&W for new Glock 45s chambered in 9mm. This would change the roughly 800 officer police force’s entire duty weapon inventory. This would be in line with several other Law Enforcement departments that have made the switch from .40 S&W to 9mm.

Welcome back to another edition of the TFB Round Table sponsored by Ammunition To Go! For those who are first joining us, this is a multi-part series where TFB will discuss the characteristics of great ammunition for specific applications. This could vary from big game hunting, plinking, precision rifle matches, small game hunting, or even pistol competitions. Chances are there is someone here at TFB who can offer you advice on buying the right round for your task at hand. This week I will offer up some suggestions on getting the most out of the forgotten cartridge of the firearms industry in the .40 S&W aka “40 Short & Weak.” This once romanticized round has recently been discarded and rejected by the shooting world in favor of 9mm. Bluntly, with the advancements in ammunition penetration and bullet technology, .40 S&W has been caught up to and surpassed by many different cartridges. Some of you crazy shooters still carry it though so let’s dive into the 5 BEST .40 S&W Rounds for Defense!
Dropping Live Ammunition CAN Lead To Detonation
For those that have been wondering about the potential dangers of dropping live ammunition, we have a well documented example for you. The Family Shooting Academy had a recent incident in which a customer dropped a box of ammo. Upon hitting the floor, there was a loud bang and the box flew apart. Despite several people standing nearby, no one was injured.
