The National Shooting Sports Foundation, or NSSF, is the firearm industry’s principal trade association in the US. Founded in 1961, the organization exists to help promote, protect, and advocate for shooting sports, as well as the various companies and other groups under this umbrella. The NSSF is responsible for some of the industry’s key initiatives, including the  SHOT Show. One such initiative is America’s official National Shooting Sports Month, as which August is designated. For National Shooting Sports Month this year, NSSF is teaming up with some firearms manufacturers to promote their +ONE campaign, as they’ve done in prior years as well. This movement is intended to encourage established shooters to bring neophytes into the fold by introducing recreational shooting to at least one new person in 2021. SIG SAUER is one of the companies that has committed to one of these “Let’s Go Shooting” movement partnerships.

After the crushing news that the NSSF ( National Shooting Sports Foundation) had cancelled SHOT Show 2021 ( Shooting, Hunting, and Outdoor Trade Show), Smith & Wesson decided to step up in a big way by donating $500,000 to their organization. While SHOT Show is obviously a huge event for the NSSF, they are still working year-round to support firearm efforts on behalf of gun owners. Smith & Wesson understands this as well and that is what motivated their end-of-the-year generosity. They elaborate on the donation in the press release statement below:

Federal Background checks, which are required for every firearm purchase from a licensed dealer, are a good way for us to determine just how busy the consumer gun industry is. Several months into COVID-19 the number of performed background checks remains high as people continue to buy up firearms.

The National Shooting Sports Federation (NSSF) is celebrating their 3rd Annual declaration of August being the National Shooting Sports Month. The mission of the NSSF with August being the National Shooting Sports Month is to create… a time for the community of firearms owners to celebrate and enjoy the shooting sports with friends, family and newcomers they want to introduce to these lifetime activities.
Back in 2017, the NSSF established August as the National Shooting Sports Month which was met with widespread approval! This national celebration of target shooting sports attracted thousands of participants to local shooting ranges. Ranges and firearms retailers listed thousands of special events and other segments of the firearms industry supported National Shooting Sports Month as sponsors, partners and through donations of sweepstakes prizes.

The National Shooting Sports Foundation® (NSSF®) does a lot of advocacy and good works within the firearms community, that is no doubt. One of their premier initiatives has been Project Childsafe. For 20 years now that program has increased awareness of safe firearms handling and storage practices among millions of gun owners, helped reduce accidental firearms deaths to historic lows and become an indispensable firearms safety education resource for partners in every state and the U.S. territories.

The National Shooting Sports Foundation ( NSSF) is a tremendous steward and champion of the shooting sports. Their work occurs through innumerable events throughout the US in educating people about firearms, but they also do smaller works as well. Some of those are simple infographics that can catch fire on social media and sometimes be even more valuable to the promotion and betterment of our cause. This might come as a surprise to many firearm enthusiasts, but this last June was one of the highest on record for gun sales. The 3rd highest in fact. What may not come as a surprise to many of you is that in whole firearm sales are dropping. Some important questions to ask may be: How much are gun sales dropping? At what rate?
