The Armies of Sweden and Finland have signed a framework agreement on red dots and military optronics with the two suppliers Aimpoint AB and Senop Oy. This takes place within the framework of a Nordic defense materiel cooperation, which deals with the joint procurement of defense materiel between the countries.

Previously, the Finnish Armed Forces' logistics service signed a letter of intent with Senop Oy, with the intention of acquiring more image intensifiers and night vision equipment. That declaration of intent has been incorporated into the now-signed agreement, which includes Sweden.

Through the agreement with Aimpoint the Swedish Armed Forces have purchased a large number of red dot sights that have been specially developed for the needs of the armed forces. For example, the newly acquired Ak 24s will be equipped with the Aimpoint Comp M5, which the Swedish Army calls “RP-sikte 18 EHV B”. You can see an image of the red dot in the featured image at the top. To learn more about Sako’s new carbine please check our recent article: Sweden Signs Agreement For More Sako AK 24 Rifles. The Finnish Armed Forces intend to acquire red dot sights as well, under the same agreement.

According to the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration’s manager for management systems, joint agreements and orders like these mean larger volumes for the industry, which enable for suppliers' growth and an increased dare to expand the number of production lines for the future.
