Springfield Armory Expands SA-35 Line with New 4" Model
Springfield Armory has introduced a new compact variant of its SA-35 series, adding a 4-inch 9mm model to the lineup. The release builds on the established SA-35 platform, offering a shorter configuration while maintaining the core design and features that define the series. The SA-35 is a modern interpretation of the classic Browning Hi-Power, originally developed by John Moses Browning
Springfield’s version of the Browning Hi-Power incorporates a number of updates intended to improve usability while preserving the traditional “wood and steel” construction associated with the original design.
This new 4-inch model retains the forged carbon steel frame and slide construction found across the SA-35 series. The shortened barrel is also forged, and the design includes an updated feed ramp geometry aimed at improving reliability with modern defensive ammunition. By reducing barrel length, the pistol offers a slightly more compact footprint while maintaining the handling characteristics of the full-size variant.
Ergonomic refinements continue with features such as a recontoured hammer to mitigate hammer bite and an extended thumb safety for improved manipulation. The pistol is equipped with a white dot front sight paired with a black serrated Tactical Rack rear sight, supporting both standard aiming and one-handed slide manipulation techniques.
Capacity is increased compared to the original Hi-Power pattern, with a flush-fitting 15-round magazine feeding through a beveled magazine well. The overall design remains focused on practical use while preserving the familiar feel of the platform.
The pistol features a matte blue finish on the carbon steel components, complemented by checkered walnut grips. These grips are shaped to enhance control and maintain the classic appearance associated with the platform.
“The SA-35 proved to be an immediate success due to its combination of traditional design and modern enhancements,” said Steve Kramer, Vice President of Marketing for Springfield Armory. “This new 4” SA-35 offers all those same benefits and appeal, but now in a smaller and faster-handling version.”
The SA-35 4" is manufactured in the United States and has an MSRP of $799.
With this addition, Springfield Armory continues to expand its SA-35 lineup, offering a more compact option for shooters interested in a modernized version of a historically significant handgun design.
Would you choose this over a polymer striker-fired pistol?
