Brownells was at SHOT Show 2025 and had the latest version of the BRN-180 on display. The latest Gen 3 model moves away from the retro design of earlier generations and moves to a more modern style. We also got to see the BRN-4 upper while we were there.

Brownells @ TFB:

The BRN-180 is a modern take on the AR-18/180 style of rifle. It uses a rotating bolt and gas piston system, with two recoil springs running through the bolt. The new Gen 3 model keeps the internals the same but has some added features compared to earlier versions. Our writer Matt has already had a Gen 3 version in hand for a while now, and you can read his full review here.

One of the most obvious differences is the new charging handle. It now has both left- and right-side handles. There are also improved dust covers around the bolt to keep it clean and to keep debris out. Unlike earlier models, the Gen 3 has captive recoil springs that do not launch out when the upper is released from the lower receiver. It also has a new gas regulator design with multiple positions that does not require any tools to change the setting. Like previous iterations, both 5.56 and .300 BLK chamberings are available options.

Brownells also had a BRN-4 upper in their booth. The BRN-4 is a clone of the HK416-pattern upper. Brownells sells complete uppers as well as parts kits for building out HK416 parts kits or finishing up a clone build already in process. Buyers can choose between multiple barrel lengths and contours. Both the BRN-180 Gen 3 and the BRN-4 are available for purchase now on the Brownells website.
