At EnforceTac 2025, Rheinmetall was showcasing what could be the final version of the SSW40 magazine-fed, shoulder-fired, automatic 40mm grenade launcher. Designed to enhance infantry squad capabilities, the SSW40 offers unparalleled firepower in a compact form factor comparable to an assault rifle.

Equipped with a self-regulating recoil system, the SSW40 can fire both Low Velocity (LV) and Rheinmetall's new Medium Velocity (MV) 40mm ammunition. The MV rounds provide a flatter trajectory and extend the effective range up to 900 meters, surpassing traditional grenade launchers. This versatility allows operators to engage a wide array of targets, from fortified positions to light armored vehicles.

The SSW40 supports various ammunition types, including High-Explosive Fragmentation (HEFRAG), High-Explosive Dual-Purpose (HEDP), Door Breaching (HEBE), and Air Burst (HEAB) rounds. Its design includes interfaces for accessories like laser modules, fire control units, and infrared programmers for airburst munitions, enhancing operational flexibility.

With development nearing completion, the SSW40 is poised to redefine squad-level support weapons, offering a balance of mobility, firepower, and adaptability for modern combat scenarios.

its interesting the small caliber japanese knee mortar was mentioned , I also

seem to recall there was , it was either a US or British system similar to the

japanese system. One cool thing about this launcher is its very futuristic

appearing , I'd be doing my best to get this into movie productions and see if

I could a prominent end credit Now we all can recall how very susp[ciously

the first flip cell phones looked like the "star trek communicator" from the first

star trek series . though if go back even further to the 1956 film which inspired

Gene Roddenberry in the first place, Forbidden Planet , the crew of that

starship also had a communicator type system though it has a belt mounted

transceiver and a wireless hand held mic I beleive .
