HOT GAT or FUDD CRAP? Mean Machine or Mellow and Yellow?

Welcome everyone to the 249th edition of 'Hot Gat or Fudd Crap?', one of our many series here on TFB. If you’re new to the series, this is where we look at the most obscure firearms that are actually for sale and ask the question - is this Gat a sweet deal or only have Fudd appeal? Each week the TFB staff weighs in with their thoughts, but readers get the final say in the poll at the bottom of each article.

In our last edition, our poll showed that you, the readers, decided the custom LCP was nothing but fudd crap.

At this time the original auction is still up with the LV-themed Ruger still up for gabs. We can only hope this pocket gat will find its way to a new home in the not-so-distant future.

In this week's edition of HGFC, we look at a custom yellow SCAR 17 chambered in .308/7.62 NATO. As always this futuristic-looking gat is currently up for sale on GunBroker for $2,225 Current Bid or $3,500 Buy It Now.

HOT GAT or FUDD CRAP? Mean Machine or Mellow and Yellow?

Let's see what the Staff had to say about this week’s offering:

"Banana farmers will love protecting their crops with this thing." - Adam S.
“The Chiquita death squads favourite rifle.” - Lucas D.
“Begging for a banana company sticker!” - Matt M.
"Look ma, video game microtransactions in real life!" - Luke C.

Selling this custom gat is GunBroker seller M.G.ARMORY.LLC, located in Hollywood FL.  Let’s see what they had to say about this one-of-a-kind FN:

“Used, Scar17 NRCH with a surefire SOCOM muzzle brake, rare ACR folding stock on KDG mounting System, MREX MK2 hand guard by KDG.Geissele trigger, and a complete cerakote paint RAL8000 color.”

I’ll be the first to tell you that modifications or not, I’m torn when it comes to the SCAR17. I’ve shot a lot of them and they’re incredibly accurate with some features I’m not super fond of. The SCAR 16 is a joy to shoot (especially full-auto) but it’s expensive in the current market saturated with AR pattern rifles. The SCAR 17 is even more expensive, and with proprietary magazines and a reciprocating charging handle, it’s a hard sell in my book.

Before available, reliable, and relatively inexpensive AR10 pattern rifles were on the market, the SCAR really stood out. Nowadays I think you’re better off getting something AR10 pattern with accessories and magazines that are easier to find. Granted there’s a certain cool factor with a rifle designed for special forces, but I’d never recommend a rifle because an SF team used it. Buy what works for you.

What do you think? Is a custom SCAR17 worth it with a current bid of just over $2k or are you better off spending that money another way? As always I leave it up to you, the readers, to decide.

What do you think?  Is this custom SCAR a Hot Gat or heavily modified Fudd Crap?  Be sure to let us know in the comments below, and cast your vote to let us know if this Used Scar17 NRCH Custom is a Hot Gat or Fudd Crap:

My favorite LGS has a SCAR-17 marked down big time and I haven't bought it because FN has NO SHAME selling slightly modified FAL mags for $50+ each. MF that tooling was paid for decades before I was born.

Banana farmers rejoice! No more getting busted by your black or fde battle rifles! We can all sleep better knowing that our bananas are safe.

Since this has devolved into 'like the color or not', I'll say fudd crap but it's a good cleaning from a hot but overpriced gat.
