HOT GAT or FUDD CRAP? Diamonds and Gold or Tired and Old?

Welcome everyone to the 250th Edition of 'Hot Gat or Fudd Crap?', one of our many series here on TFB. If you’re new to the series, this is where we look at the most obscure firearms that are actually for sale and ask the question - is this Gat a sweet deal or only have Fudd appeal? Each week the TFB staff weighs in with their thoughts, but readers get the final say in the poll at the bottom of each article.

In our last edition, our poll showed that you, the readers, decided the Yellow custom SCAR 17 was just fudd crap.

At this time the original auction is still up with a current bid of $2,525 with No Reserve. We don’t know who will take home this big yellow FN, but we hope it makes its way to a new home shortly.

In this week's edition of HGFC, we look at a diamond-covered Walther PPK chambered .380 Auto. As is tradition, this gold and diamond is currently up for sale on GunBroker for $34,999 Starting Bid or $35,000 Buy It Now.

HOT GAT or FUDD CRAP? Diamonds and Gold or Tired and Old?

Let's see what the Staff had to say about this week’s offering:

"Why buy a transferable MP-5, when you could get this?" - Daniel Y.
“The diamonds really undercut the air of class the rose gold finish is trying to bring”... - Matt M.

Selling this diamond-clad gat is GunBroker seller Black Rose Firearms, located in Hamilton OH. Let’s see what they had to say about this golden Walther:

“This listing is for a factory new Walther PPK that has been 18K Rose Gold Plated and Polished, this pistol also features 15 Carats of VS1 quality diamonds (512 Stones) along both sides of the slide. This is truly a one-of-a-kind piece. Pictures cannot do this gun a justice! Timelessness inspires true greatness. A groundbreaking idea now gives rise to the next level of achievement in unrivaled performance, delivering tried-and-true results when you need them most. Walther's industry-leading innovation takes the spotlight with their PPK model handguns. Thanks for viewing!”

I’m already partial to the PPK. Even with the cool factor of it being in the James Bond franchise, eventually, the day came when I was lucky enough to shoot one. Don’t get me wrong, they’re nice to shoot, but that’s not surprising given the weight. Now you can argue the caliber if you’d like, but honestly, 380 loadings have come far enough that I think it’s a moot point now.

The problem for me was the lack of any sort of wow factor. I’d almost wish it were lighter as it doesn’t feel like a spy gun, but it certainly didn’t benefit from any lightweight materials or modern polymer when it was designed. Sure it’s one of those guns I’d like to own, but I’d never think to customize. I think when I eventually pick one up I’ll opt for one a little cheaper and maybe get a boat instead.

What do you think? Is this custom Walther PPK worth it for a shade under $35k with all the diamonds and gold or is the blinged-out idea tired and old? As always I leave it up to you, the readers, to decide.

What do you think?  Is this Custom Walther a Hot Gat or blinged-out Fudd Crap?  Be sure to let us know in the comments below, and cast your vote to let us know if this Walther PPK 18K Rose Gold Polished w/ 512 VS1 Diamonds is a Hot Gat or Fudd Crap:

Actually tasteful, but anyone willing to spend $35,000 for a PPK that didn't belong to some Nazi with a household name is a fool.

This gun should be viewed as a piece of jewelry, not a firearm. But the grips seem wrong. They just look like cheap plastic. I think this piece needs some ivory grips. Either walrus or mammoth would work.
