Grayboe Introduces Universal Chassis System For Stock Fitments

Rifle stockmaker Grayboe is reshaping the way that stocks attach to barreled actions. Rather than making each stock in a wide range of inlets, they are making their stocks compatible with a single inner metal chassis. Once a chassis is joined with the receiver it can fit in any compatible stock model rather than requiring an entire new stock.

Stocks @ TFB:

Stocks have come a long ways from the simple pieces of shaped wood that were traditionally used. But wood stocks introduce many issues, like swelling in humid environments or cracking if the wood quality is not suitable for the recoil force of the cartridge being fired. Most precision rifle stock are made of carbon fiber with metal mounting hardware built into the stock, or a one-piece metal chassis is used.

Grayboe is turning that system on its head by making the inner mini chassis securing the action to the stock a standard piece. Shooters wanting a specific stock design for a given action need not wait for that exact combination to be offered as a model. Instead, they need the appropriate Universal Mini Chassis and a UMC-compatible stock.

UMC units retail for $229 and are offered for myriad action options including Tikka, Ruger, Remington, Howa, and Mossberg. Compatible stocks like the Flagstaff and Core can be ordered with or without a UMC unit, saving money if you already have a UMC fitted to your action.

From the manufacturer:

“Grayboe’s Universal Mini Chassis (UMC) revolutionizes stock modularity. Crafted for use in the Flagstaff, Core, and upcoming Renegade 2 stocks, the UMC lets your rifle bolt directly onto the chassis, which then fits into the stock—making it easy to swap rifles or calibers without changing the entire stock.
- Modular Flexibility
Swap rifles and calibers within a single stock for streamlined logistics—ideal for diverse hunting or range needs.
- Repeatable Zero
Once sighted in, your rifle retains zero even when the UMC is removed from the stock—thanks to the chassis maintaining alignment.
- Durability & Precision
The UMC is crafted from T6 6061 billet aluminum—hard anodized or Cerakote finished—ensuring rugged durability and consistent fit.”

For an expensive chassis I could see myself using this, like my MDT HNT26. But if its just Grayboe stocks, thats a problem. And they are not that expensive, I probably just order one for each gun.

I'm not really sure what this solves except allowing a single stock shell accommodate multiple action footprints, which seems like a relatively nonexistent problem in the mainstream firearms industry since most everything already follows the R700 footprint. Seems like putting the cart before the horse a bit.
