Hello and welcome back to another edition of The Rimfire Report! As part of this ongoing series of entirely rimfire-focused topics, I’ve been going through as many different types of .22LR ammunition as I can get my hands on, and running them through a series of standardized accuracy and velocity tests using a Bergara B14R rifle and Garmin’s extremely handy Xero C1 Pro chronograph. In the past, we’ve had the opportunity to check out everything from CCI’s very much loved Standard Velocity ammo, to some of Europe’s best budget offerings like last week’s S&B Club 40 grain. This week we’re checking out another rather odd ammo I picked up while browsing a local outfitter - Browning PRO-22 40 grain. This ammo is marketed as a varmint hunting/recreational shooting cartridge and today we’ll run it through our normal series of tests so I can give you my thoughts on the ammo.

Hello and welcome back to another edition of The Rimfire Report! I’ve been getting some fresh new batches of different ammo for testing, so this week we’ll be checking out a rarity over here in the States - Sellier & Bellot Club 40 Grain 22LR.

If you’re not shooting 9mm suppressed on a regular basis you’re missing out. My own preference is a well-suppressed pistol caliber carbine, but a handgun will do. I always try to choose a pistol with a threaded barrel or a PCC with a 3-lug, so I get more choices to suppress.

In my continuing dive into rimfire ammo throughout the year I have often wondered why we don’t see too many other rimfire cartridges becoming quite as popular as 22LR. While it's easy to dismiss this as most of them being fairly recent inventions, I think that the real reason is multifaceted and that’s what I want to talk about today. One benefit that the .22LR has being one of the oldest self-contained cartridges in the world is that there is an extensive list of ammo types available to the end user. Whether you want hollow points, round noses, copper projectiles, fancy fracturing ammunition, tracer ammo, or even shotshell ammo - .22LR has just about everything. Depending on what you’re doing, different ammo types could prove to be a better overall choice than just opting for either the most expensive or the cheapest ammunition. One often overlooked feature that can drive the price and performance of ammo either up or down is the type of coating (if any) that is used during the manufacturing process. Today we’re going to take a look at the different types of coatings currently available and see what each offers the shooter and what ammo companies offer that type of coating on their ammo.

Hornady’s Advanced Rifle Cartridge family has a new member. The .338 ARC joins the 6mm and .22 ARC in the lineup of AR-compatible calibers. Unlike those longer range calibers, the .338 ARC is more akin to the .300 Blackout, but beefier.

SIG Sauer have celebrated the opening of their newest facility the JAAC or Jacksonville Arkansas Ammunition Center. The huge new manufacturing facility expands SIG’s existing production space with a further 210,000 square feet dedicated to supporting the Next Generation Squad Weapon systems now entering service with the US Army. JAAC will focus on SIG’s advanced new hybrid ammunition which is an integral part of the NGSW platform.

Utah's Hunters Helping Condors program is trying to reduce lead ammo use in hunting units where California Condors live. To do this, the state Division of Wildlife is offering hunters a coupon towards lead-free ammo and a prize drawing. Let's check out the specifics of this program.

Nosler has just introduced a new line of hunting ammunition called Whitetail Country. Tailored for deer hunting, this ammunition family is loaded with expanding bullets of two types - Solid Base and Straight-Wall. The former is a boat tail bullet loaded into bottleneck cartridges and the latter is a flat base bullet offered in straight-wall cartridges.

Aguila Ammunition’s Copa Mundial event just ended in Saltillo, Mexico. Over 350 shooters came to the event and competed in various shooting matches including sporting clays, five-stand, silhouette, and practical shooting. One million pesos [$17,425] was on the line in prize money as well!

A couple of weeks ago we discussed one of my favorite firearms - the American 180. Some of you had mentioned in the comments that the AM-180 might have been even cooler if it was chambered in something like 22 Magnum. 22 Magnum has seen a bit more attention from ammunition companies and firearm companies alike with Federal Punch 22WMR being an entirely defensive-oriented rimfire load, and the new North American Arms Sentinel being a much more convenient version of their already pocket-friendly Sidewinder 22 Magnum revolver. Since these two items seem like they’d make a great match, I thought It’d be great to take both to the range and get some real-world shooting data, as well as some velocity data to see how these two fairly unique rimfire offerings pair together in the real world.

Today fellow writer Darwin and I dig into the U.S. Army’s new rifle and its strange hybrid-cased ammunition. The NGSW program and the resultant firearms that were selected have been met with both praise and disdain for several reasons. However, today the aim is to discuss some of the positives and the negatives of this platform and its cartridge, from the perspective of civilians, reloaders, and of course, guys who just love guns. Last week, Luke talked about the possible military applications of the American-180 rimfire submachine gun. In today's installment, we are reporting rimfire news - Winchester Ammunition's new 21 Sharp cartridge, which was standardized by SAAMI over a year ago, is now available. Shortly after the release of this new rimfire cartridge, Savage Arms announced the availability of a number of their rimfire rifles chambered in 21 Sharp. Let’s take a closer look at the new cartridge and rifles.

Back in 2021, we reported about a long-range anti-materiel/sniper rifle and cartridge (12.7x114HL) developed by a Ukrainian company called Horizon’s Lord. The 12.7x114HL cartridge was created by necking down the 14.5x114mm case to .50 caliber. In this article, we’ll take a look at a new rifle and cartridge system designed by this company which is kind of the opposite of the 12.7x114HL concept. The new MCR .57 HL rifle is a shorter-range integrally suppressed bolt-action rifle and the cartridge it is chambered in, the .57 HL, is a 14.5mm caliber cartridge based on the .50 BMG case.
