    I am a little taken back by the "look down at my holster" statement. Why take your eyes off the target? Your muscle memory will put the handgun in the holster without ever having to take your eyes off target or while scanning the area.

      @tommy brown Because the only time you re-holster is when you're done scanning the area and you're absolutely, positively, 100% confident the situation is safe. At which point you probably want to prioritize making sure that, say, no article of clothing or anything else got jumbled up in your holster, ready to cause an AD (or, if you'd like, ND).

      At least that's the reasoning I was taught.
