[SHOT 2024] Simunition Shows New AR Uppers and 9mm Training Ammo

@Uncle Yar There's only one reason to ban ammunition that literally cannot go through even heavy clothing let alone body armor. The government just doesn't want trained citizens. Expect an airsoft ban (there are already attempts) and anything resembling milsim as "militia" or "extremist" training.

@Caffeinated It's not even banned by law. The Manufacturer just refuses to sell it to the general public. Which is even more stupid.

@Uncle Yar ATF actually banned importation of this for civilian purposes in 2023. Most of the Sim rounds I've used were manufactured in Canada (IVI headstamp). This is a defacto ban considering UTM is manufactured overseas as well.

Feds love their import bans and all - but there ain't jack stopping domestically produced cartridges. Let's see how they like that.

@Uncle Yar I'd be surprised if there's enough demand on the non-LE/mil side to justify tooling up for domestic Simunition production.

@Beju Well I've always seen people set up US subsidiaries to fulfill DOD contracts so my dumbаss assumed to that end - incorrectly so.

Say, how about 3d printing plastic bullets with frangible polymer starch-like filament loaded to low pressure "gallery loads"? Could that be a thing or am I smoking metaphorical crack?

@Uncle Yar I don't know enough about 3D printing to say yes or now.

I imagine there's some balancing of velocity, trajectory, deformability, [lack of] fragmentation, and lack of serious injuries to be done.
