If you always wanted to own a Geissele rifle but could never afford one, then the new El Jefe rifle must be interesting to you. This rifle is made by Geissele Automatics but it’s sold under the ALG Defense brand (Geissele’s sister company). With an MSRP of $1,199, the El Jefe rifle is $900 cheaper than the most affordable Geissele-branded rifle. The differences between the El Jefe and Geissele rifles of comparable configuration are in materials, manufacturing techniques and finishes.

ALG Defense El Jefe is a DI rifle chambered in 5.56x45mm NATO. The 16″ button-rifled government profile barrel of this rifle is made of MIL-B-11595E chrome moly steel, has a chrome-lined bore and manganese phosphate external finish. The muzzle device is an A2 birdcage-style flash hider, however, suppressor-ready muzzle devices will be available later. The El Jefe rifle features a Geissele extended mid-length gas system with a 17-4 PH stainless steel gas block. The ALG V03 round M-LOK handguard is mounted on the proprietary ALG barrel nut. The rifle does not have rail-mounted backup sights however it comes with a Warner & Swasey RDSMicro MOA3 red dot sight that has built-in iron sights.

The upper and lower receivers of the ALG Defense El Jefe rifle are machined out of 7075 aluminum forgings and have a mil-spec Type 3 hard-coat anodized finish. The rifle features an ALG Defense ACT trigger, Geissele A22 pistol grip, B5 Systems Enhanced SOPMOD stock, Geissele Super 42 braided wire recoil spring with H1 buffer, and a lower receiver end plate with a built-in QD sling swivel socket. The bolt carrier is made of 8620 steel and the bolt is machined out of Carpenter 158 steel. The internal surfaces of the bolt carrier and gas key as well as the firing pin are chrome plated. The external finish of the BCG is manganese phosphate. The El Jefe rifle also comes with a 1.25″ sling.

    Based off the comments I must be the only one who likes the a2 grip. Then again I'm a strange person.

      @Abel_Archer83 That is one of the more annoying gripes in the AR community. The A2 isn't great, but it does what it's supposed to; be a good enough grip for the most people possible.
