@tdiinva Because there's a category of people who are completely irresponsible with money and need the newest thing, all the time, to get their dopamine fix. Guns are effectively consumer discretionary consumables with a 12-24 month product cycle. It's the exact same thing with computers, cars, fashion, etc. The only differential with guns is the whole ShEePdAwG ThReEpEr mentality that so many people have. The actual justification and practicality of items get totally mixed up with ego, armchair soldiering, beard grooming, and wearing flannel.

Needless to say, Sig has this market figured out to a T and this thing will probably sell just fine.

@360_AD No I haven't. I made case for rational economic decision making where you equate marginal cost to either marginal utility or marginal productivity.

@derpmaster As I remarked on previous article the firearms industry failed to learn from auto industry and have their products break after a certain number of rounds. Ok Taurus has got that one down.

Because there's quite a large portion of shooters today that would say yes, the minor differences between guns and features would keep them alive in a gunfight. Those slide cuts, mini comp, and Apex trigger will cut down their split times enough to matter. That pistol optic will save their life in the 30-yard prolonged engagement that they need to train for. These guys think more about fantasy situations than real life, so no amount of special coatings or accessories will ever be enough because there will always be some new scenario that will require another purchase.

But to keep things sort of on track with the article, it's about time that Sig decided to do this rather than releasing a hundred different variations and forcing their customers to mix and match with various P365s.

@tdiinva I like it and think It's a good idea, in the same way the custom works 320 FCU is. Buy it and put together the gun you *want* to have from the get go, rather than buying what's on the shelf at your LGS and then buying a bunch of additional parts to swap in.

It's what my wife did for her 320. She wanted a configuration that was never in stock, so she got an FCU and ordered the rest of the parts online.

@tdiinva I much prefer the gun industry we have now to the theoretical one with planned obsolescence.

@tdiinva Let people decide what they want. Some people are new and haven’t bought anything or only one thing yet. Other people just want the next crazy thing. If someone else spends their money, what is it to you?

I’m not buying anything new either right now, but it doesn’t bother me if someone else does. Still carrying my original Shield despite the fact I know I’m theoretically “outgunned” compared to where i could be with newer.

@Tim U Reread what I said. "It isn't that this kind of stuff is bad..." if you are in the market for a thin, high capacity subcompact because you don't have one then by all means consider this option but if you already own say a Hellcat, what would this do for you? If you were honest, nothing unless you had reliability issues. Understand the point now?

@tdiinva A system that requires people to exhibit "rational economic decision making" as the norm to work properly is just as divorced from human nature as communism.

@Fahad Alam False. Utility is subjective and studies of revealed preference show that people make rational choices. Rationality in economics means if a is preferred to b and b is preferred to c then a is prefered to c. It is a logical property.

@tdiinva Utility isn't subjective. People just have differing ideas about utility because we have bounded rationality and different circumstances. Revealed preference theory is a hokey, reductive idea from the 1930s that falls apart the moment you use common sense, read some behavioral economics or something.

@Fahad Alam The basis for the Utility function is subjective. It says so right in every micro theory text. "The preference of the individual are given." The production is build on technical parameters that are not vfc subjective. And revealed preference theory had its heyday in the 50s and 60s, not the 30s.
