The First Thermal Imaging Camera from ZEISS – The DTI 3/35

Just like Leica, Zeiss had chosen this year’s IWA exhibition to release their brand new and company-first Thermal Imaging Cameras.

Once upon a time, everyone had a video camera, now we use our Smartphones or GoPros instead. But the really cool people use Thermal Imaging.

As many experienced hunters know, the most exciting hunting moments often occur around or just after sunset. With these devices, you make these moments visible.

The new camera is called ZEISS DTI 3/35, which is their first thermal imaging camera specially developed for hunting. There should be a lot of in-house knowledge at Zeiss for this technology, so I’m very eager to see the results.

The thermal imaging camera “communicates” to the viewer via a high-resolution display. The DTI 3/35 will be available in the fall of 2020.

Here’s how Zeiss describe it:

With the ZEISS DTI 3/35, ZEISS is releasing a thermal imaging camera specially developed for hunting. Its excellent optics deliver detailed images, even in the darkness, allowing hunters to accurately identify their target for maximum hunting success. The ZEISS DTI 3/35 delivers unique hunting experiences and unforgettable moments, even in difficult lighting conditions. Its ergonomic design and the intelligent arrangement of the control buttons make the device exceptionally easy to use and its operation extremely intuitive. The high-resolution HD LCOS display combined with 0.5x zoom increments delivers detailed images for accurate identification. As a result, the device opens up a completely new world of hunting!

Handle the night. Thanks to intuitive ergonomics.

Hunting in darkness is a unique challenge: your vital sense of sight is severely impaired and the risk of not being successful, or even making a wrong decision, is high. The nighttime and dusk play an important role for hunters, however, especially when it comes to hunting wild boars.

Outstanding optics in familiar ZEISS quality

Simply seeing something at night isn’t enough – you also have to be able to accurately identify what you see. After all, the difference between a boar and the lead sow often lies in the details. That’s why the high-resolution HD LCOS display delivers images with the exact level of detail you need to reliably identify your target – even in total darkness.

Stalking at night requires a great deal of attention. ZEISS developed the ErgoControl operating concept so the use of the optics does not cause any distractions: With the intelligent positioning of the buttons, each function can be controlled intuitively. The perfectly shaped control elements can be identified quickly – even when wearing gloves.
Nature behaves very differently in the dark than in the daylight. This means you can observe fascinating moments that are so unique, you want to save them and share them with others. Using the ZEISS Hunting App, hunters can transfer data from the DTI 3/35 directly to a smartphone via WiFi and even live stream their nighttime hunting adventures.
The innovative design of the optics allows for one-handed operation. This is optimized for both left-handed and right-handed users. The ergonomic shape of the device enables a natural posture of the hand, with the fingertips resting directly on top of the controls. This favors long and fatigue-free observation.
