Palmetto State Armory has officially released the Olcan, a long-anticipated bullpup variant of the JAKL rifle chambered in 5.56 NATO or .300 AAC Blackout. Built around a 6105 monolithic rifle-length upper receiver, the Olcan relocates the JAKL’s fully captured buffer system into the upper, allowing for its compact bullpup layout while maintaining the platform’s rigidity and operating characteristics.

Welcome back to TFB’s Small Business Spotlight! In this weekly article series, we talk about small firearm-related businesses. In today’s edition, we’ll take a look at Atlas Engineering, a company that is designing a new bullpup rifle.

This year at the DSEI 2025 defense expo in London Singapore’s ST Engineering displayed their newest AR-15 pattern rifles and their new bullpup - the AME-B514. We first saw ST Engineering’s ‘Next Gen SAR’ at the Singapore Airshow 2024 but the design is still developing and its externals have noticeably changed. This week at DSEI, TFB had the honour of being the first to get up close and handle the new rifle.

SRU Precision from Taiwan makes chassis for various firearms, or in their own words, specializes in crafting aesthetically designed and other innovative firearm parts. In this Photo Of The Day, their SARB-15 chassis got a major upgrade, now paired with the BRN-180 upper for a sleek, compact, low-recoil package. According to the company’s description, you get reduced overall length, uncompromised barrel performance, and a bold, futuristic look.

Modern battlefields are no longer just about bullets and boots. Now it’s also about bytes and blades, and today’s subject in TFB’s Photo Of The Day. With the rapid rise of small, weaponized drones, the fight has shifted upward, and soldiers are turning to new tech to bring those threats crashing down. It’s like having a minefield in the sky, something not many had been thinking about until recently.

This is not the first suppressed Tavor we have shown on our Photo Of The Day, but it’s the first X95 model. This IWI Tavor X95 has a Vortex Viper PSD 1-6x24 in a Spuhr QDP-3002 mount on top, with an A-Tec A-Flow suppressor (made in Norway).

James Reeves visits the Corvus booth at Austria Arms Action Days to check out a prototype trigger system designed specifically for the Steyr AUG. If you’ve ever shot a bullpup, you know one of the biggest complaints is the mushy trigger. Corvus is changing that with a new drop-in, two-stage aluminum and steel trigger pack that breaks at around 2.5kg, features a short reset, and installs in seconds. It’s taken over a year to develop, and it’s finally almost ready for release, pending final testing. But at around $500, is it worth it? James digs into why bullpup triggers are so tough to get right, what makes this system different, and why it might finally fix the AUG’s worst flaw.

At the DEFEA 2025 exhibition in Athens, Greece, the Armenian company Maktes Arms is presenting its new service rifle called the T-AB 1A. The design appears to be quite intriguing, since it can be adapted to different calibers and magazines.

KNS Precision, known for their adjustable AK gas piston system, has been working on a similar project for the AUG. James saw an early prototype at SHOT Show this year, and at NRAAM 2025, Hop stopped by the KNS booth to see how it's coming along.

Steyr has finally answered the call with an official AUG Glock magazine conversion kit, unveiled at EnforceTac 2025. Priced at just €300-400, this is a game-changer for those wanting a 9mm AUG without breaking the bank. With factory support from Steyr, reliability and fitment should be rock solid.

Steyr just dropped a bombshell at Enforce Tac 2025—a 7.62x39 AUG. By blending elements of the .300 BLK and 5.56 gas systems, Steyr has cracked the code for a reliable and effective AK-caliber bullpup. This new variant is aimed at countries with surplus 7.62x39 ammo that want to upgrade their platforms while maintaining logistical efficiency.

Building on the intriguing platforms introduced last year at SHOT Show, Desert Tech are are about to begin shipping complete TREK-22 and Quattro rifles in February.

As a British guy at SHOT Show it would be remiss of me not to go and check out the new AKB-23 inspired by the UK’s service rifle - the SA80/L85.

The Russian OTs-69 weapon system was publicly unveiled in 2012. It is developed by the TsKIB SOO subsidiary of the KBP Instrument Design Bureau. Information about the weapon is limited, primarily consisting of a few photographs and minimal published details. Its status is particularly intriguing, as it remains to be seen whether the development has been halted, is awaiting a customer, or if customer requirements have changed. This uncertainty adds an element of intrigue regarding the weapon's potential applications and future developments.

The U.S. Forces look a bit unfamiliar with these French FAMAS bullpups, but if you only ever knew about the M4 it’s probably like eating escargots for the first time. As some of you connoisseurs know, French cuisine has a lot to offer if you dare to try, just stay clear of the frog legs. TFB’s Photo Of The Day is at it again, and as the FAMAS is being phased out in most places except in the jungle we feel obliged to share as much as we can of this legendary firearm.

In a significant move towards modernizing its military capabilities, the Austrian Armed Forces have introduced the Steyr AUG 77A1 MOD "Nightfighter" into their arsenal. Unveiled during the "Tag der Offenen Tür" (Open House Day) at the Liechtenstein Barracks in Allentsteig, the rifle is part of the broader "Mission Vorwärts" ("Mission Forward") initiative spearheaded by the Ministry of Defense.

It’s been a while since I saw a rifle that reminded me more of the Heckler & Koch G11, but here it is - the TTS Xceed R made by TEC TARGET SCHNEIDER GmbH in Germany. For our Photo Of The Day, we just love rifles and setups like this. In fact, this is the hunting rifle version and it’s also available with various suppressor solutions.

You may know the KelTec RDB, but you have never seen a bullpup moving quite as fast as this one. These photos were taken during the Rifle World Shoot in Finland, at Stage 19 which seems to have been a lot of competitor’s favorite stage. The competitor is Joe Easter from the U.S. National Team in Semi Auto Standard, and the team managed a silver medal after the Finns. As you can see, the KelTec has been modified, and we’ll get back to those details in a future interview with Joe.
