In the first part of the interview, I spoke with Jim Fuller about his experience with Chinese AKs. In this chapter, he will talk about the early 2000s, when US companies just started to build the first American-made AKs.

Last year, I published a series of articles about the history of Chinese AK rifles, Part 1 was about the construction of the factories and the Russian assistance, Part 2 was about the proliferation of Type56, Part 3 was dedicated to post-Cold War changes in Chinese firearms manufacturing and in Part 4 I wrote абоут modern variants of Chinese AKs. However, I ignored one important part of China AK history – importation to the USA. And who knows it better than Jim Fuller, one of the most well-known veterans of the industry who contributed to the popularity of the AK platform in the US.

After a small run of custom AKs chambered in .223/5.56, Rifle Dynamics has added this rifle to their main product line due to the high demand. This new product is called RRD556 NATO AK. According to the announcement posted on the company’s social media pages, this project was possible thanks to the efforts of the K-Var Corp.

Rifle Dynamics has designed a new tunable AK gas block. Currently, it is available only as an upgrade option for the company’s production model rifles, however, according to the company officials, they may offer it as a separate part in the foreseeable future. Rifle Dynamics has announced about the addition of California compliant AKs to the list of their main products. The company has built multiple custom California compliant AKs before, but now they have these rifle as main production models. Rifle Dynamics calls this project Operation California Air Lift. Since Jim Fuller founded Rifle Dynamics more than a decade ago, the company has risen to an extremely high standard of craftsmanship within the AK industry in the United States. Jim talks about the story of the company, starting with his very first introduction to the weapon system as an electrician on a job site to making mistakes with Chinese import guns, and ending with what Rifle Dynamics will be coming out within the next year of production when it comes to the Kalashnikov derivatives that it has become famous for manufacturing.

Jim Fuller of Rifle Dynamics recently shared this photograph of a cut down 91/30 Mosin Nagant that was recently taken to his shop by an officer of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department who needed some help identifying it. Apparently, the weapon was confiscated from a local criminal in the Las Vegas area.

Within the last couple of months, Rifle Dynamics has been releasing short Q&A videos where Jim Fuller, the founder of RD, was answering to customers’ questions and showing some AK manipulation drills. I’ll post these videos in chronological order.

Rifle Dynamics owner Jim Fuller took to Facebook to announce that he was approached by a ‘group of long time friends’ to sell the company and that he has accepted the offer. Fuller has not yet disclosed the buyers nor the sale price and only offers that more information will be available soon.

Keomaka is an artist who has a series of firearm and military themed paintings. In collaboration with Jim Fuller and Travis Haley, the artist made a special Signature Series of paintings, which tell the stories of life, values and passion of Jim and Travis.

Not content to make arguably the finest Kalashnikov rifles in both 7.62×39 and the 5.45 rifles has set his sights on creating a true “precision” AK. Taking one of the first models out to a 100 yard range, Jim Fuller and Travis Haley are working to wrench performance from the (by reputation) inaccurate platform.

Rifle Dynamics (RD) is one of the top tier custom AK builder in the USA. They are local to me and I was invited for a factory visit. Unlike the popular AR-15 platform with its lego like modular construction, building an AK properly requires a lot of skills and experience in metal working. The emphasis here is building it properly. Each step in the building processes and the careful selection of parts are essential in the safety and longevity of an AK build.
