As we close in on the holiday season, I’m sure everyone is working towards getting all of their early Christmas shopping done to beat the Black Friday and Cyber Monday rushes. While some of the biggest deals of the year happen right around Black Friday, sometimes the stress of the mad rush to get those hotly discounted items can be more of a hassle than a way to save on holiday deals. Today for TFB Weekly Amazon Deals 21 I wanted to provide everyone with a nice short list of items that would make for great stocking stuffers in case you’re looking for a few items you can pass along to friends, coworkers, and acquaintances who you want to gift for the holiday season. Let’s get started. Almost all of these items are less than $100 so you should be able to pick up a couple of them to fill those gaps in your holiday gift-giving list.

Welcome everyone to the TFB Armorer’s Bench! As mentioned in the little blurb, this series will focus on a lot of home armorer and gunsmith activities. Today I wanted to talk about gunsmith/armorer liquids. One of the more mundane day-to-day things that a gunsmith has to deal with is cleaning guns. This could be one gun from a single range session or even grandpa’s old 22 that was left in the barn for the last 30 years. Regardless, at its core, it is job security because cleaning a gun as a service is valid. I figured I should go over a loose list of “gunsmithing liquids” and my recommendations for said cleaning supplies. Let’s dive right into the liquids that are straight from my bench!

Have you ever encountered a gun guy who wasn’t thoroughly acquainted with the aroma of Hoppe’s #9 gun cleaner? Such an anomaly would likely be difficult to find. Since Frank August Hoppe first mixed that famous nine-chemical concoction 117 years ago, the brand has become virtually ubiquitous in the realm of firearms cleaning. For many shooters, burnt powder and Hoppe’s #9 served as the fragrance of youth, and the venerable elixir is still going strong today.

FMK Firearms is set to unveil a NEW series of Elite Race Pistols to the public at SHOT Show 2018. They will boast what they are calling an Elite Trigger, textured frame with a shock absorbing back-strap and a beveled magwell. The premier component of these pistols though will be the slide. It is custom designed with a cut-out for a Vortex Venom or Trijicon RMR to go directly on it, it takes Glock® compatible iron sights and it employs front and rear slide serrations as well as the slide top being hollowed out for balance and curb appeal.

The US Army’s Armament Research, Development, and Engineering Center (ARDEC) has developed an integral surface treatment for infantry small arms that could augment or supplant the existing applicated Cleaning, Lubricating, Preserving (CLP) lubricant on small arms components. The new lubricant is applied during the manufacturing of small arms and promises a permanent solution for weapons lubrication and environmental resistance. From Army.mil:

While it is true there are a number of cleaning and lubricant products for firearms on the market, it is also true they are not all created equal. Some work better than others, some do not work at all, and some actually create the opposite effect the user is hoping for by gumming up the gun rather than helping it run smoothly. Due to those issues – the saturation of such products lining the shelves of local gun stores and their hit-or-miss tendencies – it’s only natural to react with some skepticism when faced with something new. In this case, however, that something new just happens to be something good. That something good is SEAL 1.

While the test is certainly only covering only a single facet of what makes lubricant preform in the field (how much carbon debris comes out of the gun versus stays in it), its still fascinating to watch the ultra-slow motion of a Beretta M9 and AR-15 shooting in good light. One of the cool things about SHOT is that you have the opportunity to see a bunch of competing products in the same category all in the same venue with the actual reps. Gunzilla was one of several “cleaning” product vendors, and was on my list.
