TFB Review: The Vortex Strike Eagle 1-8×24 FFP Riflescope

If you’ve ever wanted to see things with no magnification, then see things with more magnification, then an LPVO might be for you. The low power variable optic has exploded in popularity over the past few years. I’ve been behind a few of them myself, and I understand the appeal. Today, though, we’ll be talking about a specific model. Vortex makes optics that are priced from budget to second mortgage, which is one of the things I love about them. I tend to stick closer to the budget side of things, which is why I’ve decided to review an LPVO from their popular Strike Eagle line. This is the Vortex Strike Eagle 1-8×24 FFP riflescope.

TFB Weekly Web Deals 31: Dedicated .223/5.56 Riflescopes

The venerable .223 Remington cartridge is considered by many to be the most popular and common in-use cartridge across the United States for rifles. The intermediate cartridge was designed in 1962, received SAAMI certification in 1963, and was eventually developed into the 5.56×45 NATO cartridge in the 1980s as SS109 or M855. Today for TFB Weekly Web Deals 31, we’ll be taking a look at some fresh fall deals on optics specifically designed around the .223 Remington cartridge.

An Open Letter: Ammo Manufacturers, Please List Your Test Barrel Lengths

As a consumer of commercially available ammunition, I’ve found that some manufacturers don’t care to list their test barrel length, which has at times, been a hindrance to my shooting experience. I would like to express my hope that all ammunition manufacturers will someday readily provide the information about what length of test barrel was used to help create the muzzle velocities boasted on the cardboard box of any given load.  Let’s look at some examples of where knowing the test barrel length could help a shooter.

TFB Review: 1-4×24 Carbine Scope From S2 Delta

The S2 Delta company recently released their 1-4×24 Carbine Scope. S2 Delta was already in the business of making rifle slings, but this was their first venture into rifle optics.  As the 1-4x implies, the S2 Delta scope is a low power variable optic (LPVO) that lets the user engage targets from several yards out to several hundred yards.  The optic’s reticle has a Bullet Drop Compensator (BDC) with quick reference points for windage.  The reticle is in the second focal plane to keep the reticle the same size no matter what power setting the scope is set to.  The 1-4×24 optic has a 30mm diameter tube that I paired with an Aero Precision Ultralight Scope Mount, courtesy of S2 Delta for the review. Let’s dig in.
